Abstract

PURPOSE:To make boiling extraction of agar easy and to increase yield of agar, by treating tropic sewing thread or Gelidiella acerosa Feldman et Hamel with caustic soda, etc., mechanically grinding alga texture and removing alkali impurities deposited on the alga texture. CONSTITUTION:Tropic sewing thread or Gelidiella acerosa Feldman et Hamel is treated with caustic soda, etc., ground by a ball mill or vibrating mill and alkali impurities deposited on alga texture are removed. When the ground alga is immersed in pure water, brown waste liquor at pH about 8.2 is produced, ground washed alga shows yellowish white, dissolution is facilitated, extracted sol is readily separated from the residue and agar having excellent luster is obtained in high yield. namely, tropic sewing thread or Gelidiella acerosa Feldman et Hamel which has been thought to be unusable can be economically utilized by adopting this method.

Conventional technology In the past, when producing agar from Ogonori, it was necessary to chemically treat it with caustic soda, etc., and then undergo the following steps: boiling and extraction, coagulation and cutting8, pressing and dehydration, drying, and pulverization. When chemically treated, the algae become hard and difficult to dissolve and extract using normal processes, so agar manufacturers avoid this process and have no choice but to use raw algae from South America, even though it is more expensive. Problems to be Solved by the Invention The present invention investigated the cause of difficulty in dissolving tropical algae such as Ogonori or Shima Amakusa. As a result, alkaline impurities that had penetrated into the algal tissue could not be removed by normal washing and were treated with acid. The aim was to develop a method that would make it possible to produce agar using inexpensive tropical algae by removing it.

Means for Solving the Problems The present invention involves treating tropical Ogonori or Shima Amakusa with caustic soda, etc., and then mechanically crushing the algae tissue to remove alkaline impurities deposited on the algae tissue. This is a method for producing agar that facilitates boiling and extraction, increases the yield without impairing the coagulation power of agar, and obtains a product with good color.

Function The present invention consists of the above-mentioned method. After crushing rice cakes, etc. that have been chemically treated with caustic soda, etc. using a ball mill or vibration mill, etc., and immersing them in clear water, a brown P,+(8,2) waste liquid is produced. The crushed and washed algal bodies exhibit a yellowish-white color and are easily dissolved, making it easier to separate the extracted sol and the residue, thereby increasing the yield of agar with good color.

Example To further explain an example of the present invention, 10 kg of dried tropical fish to be cultured was heat treated with a 5z caustic soda solution, washed with water, wet crushed using a vibrating mill, etc., and then washed and dried to obtain 300 g. Boiling and extraction was carried out in a conventional manner to obtain 10.85 kg of S-thick sol. Place this in a strength measuring box and keep it at 2 degrees Celsius.
The jelly strength of the gel solidified in a constant temperature bath at 0 degrees for 12 hours was 870. The agar weight after freeze-drying this is 18
8g, and the yield ratio to the raw material was 56z, which was 1.58% to the solution. This value is comparable to raw materials produced in South America.

Next, to explain another example, the fibers of the tropical island Amakusa are hard, and the algae have a lot of oyster shells attached to them, making it difficult to dissolve, and the agar yield and coagulation power are both low, so it is hardly considered in Japan. However, when this raw material is treated with 5Z caustic soda at a low temperature of 75 degrees Celsius, crushed and washed in a vibrating mill, and then boiled and extracted in the usual way, it becomes agarose, which is said to be a highly viscous Amakusa glue (agarose). was obtained, showing good results with a jelly strength of 1200, and the yield of agar based on the dry raw material was 38%. This will lead to a reduction in production costs due to its mixed use with non-coagulating seaweeds such as Ogomodoki, which are produced in large quantities locally.

Effects In the present invention, as a result of employing the method as described in the above-mentioned embodiments, tropical Ogonori or Shima Amakusa, which was previously believed to be unusable, can now be used economically. Ogonori, the main raw material for industrial agar in Japan, used to import 8 oz of the required amount from far away in Central and South America, but recently, as a result of the establishment of a large-scale agar factory there, the raw material exported to Japan has been severely restricted. As a countermeasure, we conducted a survey to find supply sources in Southeast Asia.1 For example, around Celebes Island in the Republic of Indonesia, there are tens of thousands of hectares of fishponds called Empen, most of which are unused. It turned out. Therefore, we used idle fishponds to cultivate Ogonori, and with the intention of exporting it to Japan, we carried out this process locally, and as the results were better than expected, we were able to use raw materials that could not be used in the past. This is an extremely excellent method for producing agar.
