Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable optimum maintenance and replacement operations and contrive enhancement of printing quality and reliability and a reduction in maintenance cost, by providing a type history memory having a nonvolatile storage function for storing the count of the number of printing actions for each type, a memory-controlling circuit, a read switch and a clear switch. CONSTITUTION:With a read switch 6 being depressed, a memory-controlling circuit 7 outputs, for printing, the contents of a type history memory 10 for all types. For this purpose, a read signal 7a is applied to a terminal AD1 of a type history memory address generating circuit 8, a read/write terminal of the memory 10 and a printing control terminal of a printing circuit 11. In response to this, the circuit 8 generates memory addresses for all types, and applies the addresses to the memory 10. An output read from the memory 10 is printed by the printing circuit 11. Thus, it is made possible to know the use history of each type, namely, the number of times the type has been used for printing. A type band is replaced, and the content of the type history memory is cleared by pressing a clear switch 5.

FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing one embodiment of the present invention. The line printer stores one line of print data sent from an external data source 1 into a print data memory 3 via a line 1a. On the other hand, a synchronizing pulse (not shown) which is output in synchronization with the moving position of the type is applied to the type code generator 2 via the line 2a, and this pulse is always applied to the type code generator 2 before the printing norm. The type code that corresponds to the incoming type is printed. Upon receiving one line of print data, the comparison circuit 4 connects the print data memory 3 and the print code generator 2.
If they match, a match signal is applied to the count terminal of the memory control circuit 7. Also, type code generator 2
The output of is also applied to the AD2 terminal of the print history memory address generation circuit. As a result, each type code is converted into an address corresponding to each type character in the type history memory 10, and the address is added to the type history memory 10. A match signal applied to the count terminal of the memory control circuit 7 causes the print history memory read signal to read/write the print history memory 10.
The contents of the address specified by the line 8a are added to the write terminal and read out from the print count circuit 9\C via the line 9a. 1 is added to the read content and written to the same address as above.

The print history memory 10 is stored when the line printer device is powered on/off.
Since it has a non-volatile memory function so that its contents do not change when it is off, it is possible to keep a history of the number of times it has been printed.

That is, when the reed switch 6 is pressed, the read signal is applied to the lead terminal of the memory control circuit 7, and the memory control circuit 7 sends the read signal to the printout via the line 7a in order to print out the contents of the print history memory 10 for all print characters. It is applied to the ADZ terminal of the history memory address generation circuit 8, the read/write terminal of the print history memory 10, and the print control terminal of the print circuit 11.

As a result, the print history memory address generation circuit 8 generates memory addresses for all print characters, and adds them to the print history memo IJIOK. The output read from the type history memory 10 is printed by the printing circuit 11. This allows us to know the usage history of how many times each character was printed.
