Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a sharp image having good ink absorbability, by a method wherein a coating layer based on pigment and a binder is provided to the surface of a support and, after semi-drying, the surface of a transfer sheet having a desired surface shape is superposed to the surface of said coating layer to perform drying and the transfer sheet is released from the surface of the coating layer. CONSTITUTION:The coating layer applied to a support 1 in a coating part 2 passes through the first drying process 3 to be semi-dried so as to be reduced to moisture content of about 10-70%. The coated sheet passed through the first drying process is fed to a transfer sheet superposing part 4 where a transfer sheet 5 having a desired surface shape is superposed to said coated sheet and both sheets pass through the second drying process 6 not only to complete drying but also to form the shape transferred in the surface state, which corresponds to the surface shape of the transfer sheet, to the surface of the coating layer. The coated sheet and transfer sheet passed through the second drying process are fed to a transfer sheet release part 7 where the transfer sheet is taken up by a transfer sheet take up part 8. The ink jet recording sheet having the transfered coated surface is taken up by a coated sheet take-up part 9.

Conventionally, the recording paper used in the inkjet recording system has been a pigment-containing paper or a surface-coated paper that has high ink absorption properties and high image quality. However, with the advancement of industry and informationization, user requirements for inkjet recording paper have become increasingly diverse, such as high gloss,
Inkjet recording paper with a distinctive surface such as matte or embossed is desired. For example, when imparting high gloss to inkjet recording paper, high gloss can be obtained by subjecting the paper to super calender or gloss calender treatment, but in these treatment steps the paper is passed through the nip of rotating metal rolls. As a result, the paper is subjected to strong compression and becomes very dense, resulting in poor ink absorbency. Various studies have been conducted on secondary processing such as overcoating, super calendaring, cast coating, embossing, etc., but the necessary conditions for inkjet recording paper include good ink absorption and clear image quality without bleeding. The reality is that a satisfactory inkjet recording paper with a distinctive surface without impairing the properties of the inkjet recording paper has not yet been obtained, and an inkjet recording sheet with higher added value and higher quality is desired.

Means for Solving the Problems〉 The present inventors have developed a high-value-added product with a distinctive surface.
Developing a high-quality inkjet recording sheet (As a result of intensive research, we discovered a method to form a desired shape on the coated surface in the drying process after coating the paint on the support. A coating layer is formed by applying a paint containing pigments and a binder as main components to the surface of the body, and then the coating layer is semi-dried, and then a desired surface morphology is formed on the surface of the coating layer. The method is characterized in that the surfaces of the transfer sheets are overlapped, then dried, and the transfer sheet is peeled from the surface of the coating layer, thereby forming a surface state corresponding to the surface morphology of the transfer sheet on the surface of the coating layer. The present invention provides a method for manufacturing an inkjet recording sheet.

If the moisture content is less than 10%, it will be difficult to transfer when the transfer sheets are overlapped in the next process, and if the moisture content is less than 7%,
When it is 0% or more, there is a drawback that wrinkles, blisters, etc. are likely to occur in the drying process after the transfer sheets are overlapped, and it is difficult to form a clean transfer surface. The coated sheet that has passed through the first drying process is superimposed on a transfer sheet 5 having a desired surface morphology in a transfer sheet superimposition section 4, and then the second drying process is performed.
Drying is completed by passing through the drying step 6, and at the same time, a transferred form corresponding to the surface form of the transfer sheet is formed on the surface of the coating layer. The coated sheet and the transfer sheet that have passed through the second drying step are separated by a transfer sheet peeling section 7, and the transfer sheet is wound up by a transfer sheet winding section 8. On the other hand, the inkjet recording sheet of the present invention having the transferred coated surface is wound up in the coated sheet winding section 9. Next, FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the inkjet recording sheet according to the present invention at each step after coating. FIG. 2(A) shows the state after the coating surface, in which the coating layer 11 is formed on the support lO. FIG. 2(B) shows the process in which the embossed transfer sheet 13 having the protrusions 14 is superimposed on the surface of the coating layer, and the semi-dry surface is eroded by the pressure of the superposition. The pigment 12 becomes dense only on the surface, and the inside of the coating remains porous as it dries.
C) shows the state after drying and peeling off the transfer sheet 13, and when a textured transfer sheet is used as shown in the figure, the shape is transferred to the surface of the coating layer. By appropriately selecting the form of the transfer sheet in this way, inkjet recording sheets with various surface forms can be obtained.

Further, the drying conditions, the overlapping pressure of the transfer sheets, etc. may be appropriately set depending on the speed of the coating machine, the composition of the coating material, the materials of the support and the transfer sheet, etc. Note that the manufacturing method of the present invention is not limited to that shown in FIG. 1, and the first drying step can be omitted, for example, if preliminary drying is not necessary due to the high concentration of the paint.

The transfer sheet used in the present invention has a desired surface morphology such as high gloss, matte, and embossed.
Paper, film, etc. are not particularly limited as long as they are easy to peel off from the coated surface after drying and have the mechanical strength necessary for manufacturing. For example, release paper,
Polyester film, polypropylene film, polyethylene film, and those processed by embossing or the like can be used. In order to improve the releasability after drying, it is preferable that the surface of the transfer sheet is subjected to a release treatment such as silicone treatment.

In addition, the paint to be applied is one with a conventionally known composition used for inkjet recording sheets, that is,
The main components used are pigments and binders, and if necessary, dispersants, antifoaming agents, mold release agents, waterproofing agents, etc. are added as appropriate. The pigment used here is not particularly limited,
Any pigment used in general coatings such as silica, clay, talc, calcium carbonate, aluminum hydroxide, and titanium oxide may be used, and a combination of these may also be used. Examples of binders include starches, cellulose derivatives, casein, gelatin, polyvinyl alcohol and its derivatives, styrene-butadiene copolymers,
Known polymers of acrylic esters and methacrylic esters can be used, and 5 to 50 parts by weight, preferably 10 to 20 parts by weight, of a binder are mixed with 100 parts by weight of the pigment.
