[Claims for Utility Model Registration] A flywheel with an engine cooling fan is provided at the upper end of the vertically arranged crankshaft, and an air guide cover is provided that extends from the flywheel to the cylinder head and covers the upper part of the cylinder head. For general-purpose engines with a carburetor attached to the side and a power output shaft at the bottom end of the crankshaft, the opening is located above the carburetor at approximately the same height as the plane of rotation of the flywheel, and the opening faces opposite to the side of the air guide cover. A horizontally long air cleaner case whose bottom surface extends to the side of the cylinder along the curve of the side surface of the air guide cover is arranged, and an air cleaner element is placed in the horizontally long opening of the air cleaner case with a space between it and the bottom surface of the case. When installed, the cover covers all surfaces other than the bottom surface of the air cleaner case and the surface corresponding to the side surface of the air guide cover, and a vertical intake gap is created between the outer surface of the air cleaner cover and the intake surface of the air cleaner element. An air outlet is provided in the lower surface of the expansion chamber formed by the bottom surface of the case curving along the side surface of the air guide cover between the air cleaner element and the bottom surface of the case at the cylinder-side end of the air cleaner case.
