Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain a fixed printed density irrespective of variations in the ambient temperature and enhance printing quality, by providing a temperature- detecting means in the vicinity of a printing head, and outputting to the printing head a preheating signal current with a predetermined duty cycle corresponding to the level of an output from the temperature-detecting means. CONSTITUTION:A microprocessor 1 supplied with a signal from a temperature- detecting means 4 constantly controls the driving of a preheating signal generating circuit 5 to generate a pulse signal with such a duty cycle as not to cause printing, according to a detected temperature, and a pulse signal BP outputted from the circuit 5 is sent to OR circuits 61-6n, to which head-driving signals are sent. Printing heads 21-2n are preheated through the OR circuits 61-6n and head-driving circuits 31-3n for printing. While the OR of the head-driving signal HDS and the pulse signal BP for preheating which are inputted to the OR circuit 61-6n is '1', the corresponding head-driving circuit 31-3n supplies a driving current DC to the corresponding printing head 21-2n.

However, in the above conventional example, for example, if 24 heads are required to print Kanji characters, 24 circuits are required, and if 32 heads are required, 32 circuits are required. The circuit 13 is required, which has the disadvantage of complicating the circuit and increasing the cost. In addition, in the conventional example described above, since the heat bias current is always constant, the degree of ink transfer and the degree of coloring of the thermal paper vary depending on the temperature around the print head, making it impossible to obtain good prints. was there.

Therefore, in this embodiment, the output signal BP of the preheating signal generation circuit 5 is kept at a level that does not cause printing even if its duty is set to the maximum value. Since DC is only a component of the preheating pulse signal BP, the print head 2. ~2fi temperature will be kept constant. Therefore, if the head drive signal HDS is applied in such a state, the temperature rise of the print heads 21 to 21 at that time, that is, at the time when dots are printed, will also be constant.
