Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent generation of the cracks occurring in drying and thermal deterioration of a silicone rubber layer by coating a polytetrafluoroethylene resin (PTFE) dispersion on said layer, then heating and drying the coated surface at and for a specified temp. and time and baking the coating. CONSTITUTION:After the PTFE dispersion is coated on the silicone rubber layer formed on the core shaft of the roller, the coated surface is heated and dried for 10-120sec at >=500 deg.C and is then baked. The drying temp. of the coated surface is specified to >=500 deg.C, more preferably to a 500-800 deg.C range. The reason for such limitation lies in that cracks are liable to be generated at <500 deg.C and conversely there is possibility of the thermal deterioration of the silicone rubber layer when the temp. exceeds 800 deg.C. The generation of the cracks of the PTFE coated film is thus prevented by heating and drying the coated surface under the conditions of the temp. above 500 deg.C and the short time of 10-120sec. The thermal deterioration of the silicone rubber layer is prevented as well.

(Prior Art) Conventionally, heat fixing rollers used in heat fixing parts of electronic copying machines and the like have generally been made by coating silicone rubber material on a metal core shaft made of aluminum or the like with a primer. There is. In order to improve the releasability of such a roller from the toner, polytetrafluoroethylene resin (hereinafter referred to as PTFE) is applied to the surface of the silicone rubber layer.

) A dispersion is applied and dried to form a PTFE coating, and then the PTFE coating is fired to provide PTFE eyebrows. The surface coated with PTFE dispersion is dried because the dispersant is water and to prevent thermal deterioration of the silicone rubber layer, which is the base layer.
This is done by heating at a temperature of around 100°C for several minutes.

In other words, as is well known, the melt viscosity of PTFH is extremely high, so fluidity during melting cannot be expected, and cracks that occur during drying remain as they are even after firing, resulting in poor roller performance such as durability and heat fixability. There was a problem in that the performance of the system was significantly degraded.

Therefore, the present invention was made to solve these conventional problems, and it is possible to manufacture a heat fixing roller with good characteristics by preventing cracks caused by drying of the PTFE dispersion and thermal deterioration of the silicone rubber layer. The purpose is to provide a method that can be used.

[Structure of the invention] (Means for solving the problems) The present invention forms a silicone rubber layer on the roller core shaft,

In this method of manufacturing a heat fixing roller by coating and baking PTFE, after coating the PTFE dispersion, the coated surface is dried by heating at a temperature of 500°C or higher for 10 to 120 seconds, followed by post-baking. It is characterized by doing.

In the present invention, the drying temperature of the PTFE dispersion coated surface is 500°C or higher, more preferably 500°C or higher.
It is in the range of ~800°C. This is because if the temperature is less than 500°C, cracks are likely to occur, whereas if the temperature exceeds 800'C, the silicone rubber layer may be thermally degraded.

This drying can be performed simply by holding the roller in a heated atmosphere within the above temperature range, but in order to further enhance the heating effect, there are methods in which a heating element is inserted into the roller core shaft, and a method in which the roller is rotated.
