Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to replace propeller shaft sleeves in a short time without a ship being introduced into a dock, by splitting the propeller sleeve to removable fit a grand packing sleeve made in contact with a grand packing, onto a propeller shaft. CONSTITUTION:Since a propeller shaft sleeve 1 is split into two halves, when a grand packing sleeve 1b made in contact with a grand packing 103 is worn, it is satisfactory if the grand packing 1b is removed away from a propeller shaft 100 to replace with a new one. In this stage, since sea water is charged in between a bearing member 101 and a bearing sleeve 1a, water-tight measure is taken by means of a water-tight device 2, and then the grand packing sleeve 1b is replaced with new one after the grand packing 103 is removed. Accordingly without introduction into a dock, the replacement of packing sleeves, the assembly of grand packings may be made on the sea while a water-tight measure being temporarily taken, thereby it is possible to recover a water tight function in a short time.

Figure 3 shows an example of a seawater-lubricated stern tube bearing structure. Generally, a propeller shaft sleeve (1) is attached to the outer periphery of the propeller shaft (lo), and around this sleeve (1) there is a stern tube bearing structure. A bearing material (101) is installed, and a gland packing (103) is installed closer to the bow side.
This is supported rotatably. The casing (104) in which the gland packing (103) is fixed between the sleeves (1)♂ is provided with a seawater inlet (105), through which the propeller shaft sleeve (υ) and the bearing material ( 101).On the other hand, the gland packing (103) prevents the injected seawater from leaking toward the bow side from between the sleeve (1) and the bearing material (101). To prevent this, water is sealed there.

However, the propeller shaft sleeve (1) wears out during operation due to the tightening of the gland packing (103), and its water sealing function deteriorates. For this reason, when the water sealing function deteriorates, a series of repair work is carried out, including docking the ship, pulling out the propeller shaft (1θ0), and grinding the sleeve (1), and it takes a long time to restore the water sealing function. Flights will be suspended for a period of time.

Furthermore, the opening between the end of the gland packing sleeve a9 and the circular surface of the casing (104) is to temporarily close that part in order to prevent seawater from leaking into the engine room when replacing the gland packing sleeve α. A temporary water-sealing device is provided to seal the water. That is, the casing (104
) An annular groove (109) is provided on the inner surface, into which several rubber tubes Qυ are inflated by injecting air from the air injection port 91. Then, by injecting air into the rubber tube as necessary to inflate the rubber tube, the gap between the casing (104) and the bearing sleeve QQ is closed, and seawater is prevented from leaking from there to the engine room side.
