Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize coating removal from a multi-core optical fiber core with high accuracy, which can easily deal with the variation of the core thickness and fluctuation of the core quality, such as warp, etc., and does not damage the optical fiber, by providing a stopper which also works as a press. CONSTITUTION:A section far from the leading end of a multi-core optical fiber core 1 is grasped with a fixed clamp 2. Then a stopper 4 is contacted with the core 1 and a warped section, if any, is reformed. A coating removing blade 5 makes a cut into a coating section 11 under this condition, but stops at an adjusted depth because the cutting quantity of the blade 5 is adjusted by means of an adjusting screw 6 against the stopper 4. Then a moving clamp 3 is caused to grasp the leading end of the core 1 and moved in the direction shown by the arrow. As the moving clamp 3 moves, the coating section 11 is pulled and removed from the core 11.

(Prior Art and Problems to be Solved) Usually, a multi-core optical fiber core is constructed by providing a common coating to a plurality of optical fibers arranged parallel to each other at intervals on the same plane to form a tape structure. When removing the coating, as shown in Figure 3, two coating removal blades (2) attached to separate bases are placed opposite each other in the thickness direction of the multi-core optical fiber (1), and the blades (2) are The distance (g) when closed) is smaller than the thickness of the optical fiber (1) (1), and the diameter (g) of the optical fiber O?
d) Set it to be larger than that, and insert the optical fiber core (1) from both sides to make a scratch on the sheathing part OD, and then pull it out as it is, or change the end and pull it to make the sheathing part larger. Of) was removed.

However, when using this coating removal method, the position of the optical fiber, especially the easily damaged glass part, cannot be determined, so in the worst case, one of the blades may bite into the optical fiber 02) as shown in Figure 4. There was a possibility that it would get stuck and cause injury.

2), it is difficult in manufacturing to keep the accuracy within the specified tolerance, and as shown in Figure 4, the cutting depth of only one side of the blade is large, which still poses the risk of damaging the optical fiber. It could not be resolved.

After that, the coating is pulled out to expose the optical fiber in preparation for the next cutting process, but the removal length of the coating is usually 30 to 30 mm.
50 ■■ is required. However, although there are variations in the covering portion, a maximum pulling force of 1 to 2 kg was required to pull out the covering portion of the length shown in (A) at once. If we look at this as a graph of the change in the pulling force over time, as shown in Figure 6, the pulling force reaches its maximum value in a short period of time from the beginning, and then it rapidly decreases. This is because the coating is not separated at the beginning and is torn off by the pull-out force, so it is thought that a large force is required at the beginning.

To make matters even more complicated, the multi-core optical fiber 6 may warp in the pitch direction as shown in FIG. 7 due to variations in manufacturing length or due to release of stress strain after manufacturing. In such a case, it is almost impossible to remove the coating portion OD without damaging the optical fiber 1]21 by inserting the cutting edge parallel to both sides.

(Means for Solving the Problems) The present invention solves the above-mentioned problems, cuts the sheath uniformly from both sides, and further reduces the initial pulling force. The first feature is that the stopper is provided with a stopper that contacts and presses the coating portion of the multi-core optical fiber, and a coating removal blade whose protrusion amount can be adjusted with respect to the stopper. The sheath removal blade is configured to stop cutting into the sheathing part when it is in contact with the sheathing part of the multi-core optical fiber.A second feature is that in the sheathing removal apparatus, the sheathing removal blade stops cutting into the sheathing part. After making the incision, the cutting edge of the coating removal blade moves in the direction of removing the coating, thereby cutting off the coating.

1 A multi-core optical fiber coated wire configured as a tape stick by providing a common covering part OD on the fiber 021, ``■'' is a fixing device that grips the far end of the multi-core optical fiber coated wire (1). The clamp part (■) is a movable clamp part that grips the end of the multi-core optical fiber core m1 (1) and moves in the direction of the arrow to pull out the separated coating part, (2) is the multi-core optical fiber Core wire (1
) is a stopper that presses according to changes in the thickness of the stopper (■).
The amount of cut into the coating portion OD of the optical fiber core (1) by the sheath removal blade integrally provided in 2) is set in advance with respect to the stopper (2) by an adjustment screw (6).

Furthermore, as shown in Fig. 2, the above-mentioned coating removal device has a blade that rotates in the coating removal direction (Fig. (Exit in the figure) A method for removing the coating by providing a mechanism will be explained.

First, a portion of the multi-core optical fiber (1) farther from the end is gripped with a fixed clamp (2). Next, the stopper (2) is brought into contact with the multi-core optical fiber (1), and any warpage is corrected so that it becomes flat. In this state, the coating removal blade (■) makes a cut into the coating part OD, but the cutting amount of the blade (2) is adjusted in advance by the stopper (4) with the adjustment screw 0, so it stops there. (3) Grip the tip of the optical fiber (1) and move it in the direction of the arrow to pull out the coating.

In addition, as shown in Figure 2 (A), the coating removal device is provided with a mechanism that rotates or moves the cutting edge of the coating removal blade (2) in the coating removal direction, so that the coating removal blade (2) can rotate or move in the coating removal direction. The movable clamp (3) moves in the direction of the arrow and pulls out the covering part in synchronization with the movement of the cutting edge separating the covering part OD by rotating horizontally as shown in the same figure. If the initial pulling force is excessive, the pulling force of the movable clamp may be small because it is assisted by the separation action of the cutting edge.

(Effects of the Invention) According to the table device, since it is equipped with a stopper that also serves as a press, it is easy to deal with variations in quality such as variations in the thickness and warping of the optical fiber core wire, and it is possible to prevent damage to the optical fiber with high precision. It is now possible to remove coatings that are not present.
