Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve recording/reproduction outputs with a magnetic head by using a buff to round the ridge of a magnetic head having contact with a magnetic disk and therefore preventing the injuries of the magnetic disk produced when it is started and stopped. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 3 is attached to a tool 4 and then pressed against a buff 5 which is rotating toward an arrow head 11 with addition of an extremely small amount of abrasives. Thus the ridges 7 and 6 are rounded fast by revolutions 9 and 10 of the tool 4. While a ridge 8 is also rounded by the revolutions of both directions like the ridges 6 and 7. A flat plane 1 is scarcely polished since the polishing speed of the plane 1 is low compared with the ridges 6-8. The abrasives and the waste stuck at the areas close to a gap 2 are thrown off by the revolutions of the buff 5 and the tool 4. The buff 5 uses soft materials. Many magnetic heads are attached on the plane 12 of the tool 4 and a shaft 13 is put into a hole 15 of a rotary tool 16 and pressed against the buff 5. Thus the revolving force of the buff 5 is transmitted to the tool 4. Then a bearing 14 of a tool 16 is rotated to secure the smooth revolution of the tool 6. Thus mass production is possible with magnetic heads.

The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a magnetic head in which, as shown in FIG. In cases such as the contact start/stop method where the magnetic head starts up while in contact with the magnetic disk, the magnetic head does not damage the magnetic disk, does not generate fine powder, and improves the lifespan and reliability of the magnetic head and magnetic disk. , and because it can be rolled up without damaging the gap of the magnetic head, it can bring good results to high-density recording.

As a method of rounding the twill of a conventional magnetic head that comes into contact with the magnetic disk, as shown in Figure 6 described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 56-26907, a method of rounding the twill of a magnetic head, as shown in Fig. There has been known a method of lapping by making use of the elastic deformation of a curved surface and by reciprocating the head 3 in the direction of the arrow m19.

[Problems and Objects to be Solved by the Invention] However, in the above-mentioned prior art, the magnetic head 3 is brought into contact with the magnetic coating as shown in FIG. It was wrapping Aya in contact with. Therefore, as shown in Figure 7, a scratch n occurs at a depth of 1000 to 3000 A near the gap 2, and the scratch reaches Aya 8, making it difficult to start and stop the magnetic disk. This caused damage to the magnetic disk. This scratch η is caused by the magnetic head 3 as shown in FIG.
During lapping during reciprocating movement, abrasive particles and grinding debris generated by lapping become lumps 21.

This lump enters between the magnetic coating □□□ and the magnetic helad 3, and finally causes damage η to the gap 2 and the vicinity of the gap.
It can be inferred that this occurs. The reason why scratches tend to occur in the gap and the vicinity of the gap is thought to be that the abrasive particles and lumps described above tend to accumulate in the gap even in the Q gap of about 1 micron.

A magnetic head manufacturing method of the present invention for solving the above problems is characterized in that, in a flying slider type magnetic head, the twill that contacts the magnetic disk is rounded by a puff.

According to the above configuration of the present invention, the method of rounding each twill in contact with the magnetic disk utilizes the magnetic coating on the Thff1 disk or the elastic deformation of a surface having an equal 0 elasticity and surface degree, and the magnetic head is Using the method of lapping with reciprocating motion, each of the twills could be rounded without damaging the gap or the vicinity of the gap. Therefore, higher density recording is now possible without damaging the magnetic disk no matter how many times the magnetic disk is started and stopped. ``It is also possible to improve the lifespan and reliability of the magnetic disk and magnetic head.
