Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent damage occurring at a corner of the front end of a paper sheet during alignment, by deflecting the sheet in a direction in which its leading end moves away from a side registration guide after the paper sheet is introduced into the guide, and by aligning the paper sheet with the guide, starting from the trailing end side of the paper sheet. CONSTITUTION:A paper sheet 8 which is conveyed from a paper conveying device 8, is introduced into a sheet aligning device 1 through an inlet roll 5. When the leading end of the sheet reaches a deflecting roll 6, the sheet is deflected about the input roll 5 as a fulcrum by the conveying force of the deflector roll 6 in the direction in which the leading end of the sheet moves away from a side registration guide 7. Under this action the sheet 2 conveyed from the aligning device 8 to the side registration guide 7 is swung in the opposite direction before it abuts against the guide 7, and therefore, the sheet 2 is aligned with the guide 7, starting from the trailing end side thereof.
