Claims

Between a developing unit equipped with a developing roller and a loading section of the developing unit, there is provided a first drive unit for guiding the developing unit in the axial direction of the photoconductor so as to be freely inserted and removed with the developing roller spaced apart from the circumferential surface of the photoconductor. The developing device is provided with a first guide portion and a second guide portion that moves the developing roller of the developing unit toward the photoreceptor side to a state capable of developing as the developing unit moves in the insertion direction near the end in the insertion direction. The pair of connector members, which can be freely connected and separated from the power supply target of the developing unit, are connected to the developing unit and the main body so that they are connected and separated as the developing unit is inserted and removed in the insertion/removal guide area by the first guide section. At the same time, as the developing unit moves toward the photoreceptor side in the second guide section, at least one of the connector members is moved against the urging force for returning the connection separation to the initial position.
