Shock absorbers have heretofore been provided in which an outer shell, a packing case, and a stopper are separately formed and these are integrated by welding. This complicates the oil seal parts and structure, increases assembly man-hours, and is bad for productivity.Today, the packing case is omitted and the bearings and oil seals are fixed in the outer shell by caulking. A shock absorber as shown in FIG. 1 has been provided which is covered with a cap-shaped stopper that hides the peeling of the paint at the caulked portion.

To explain this, reference numeral 1 indicates a non-disassembly type upper cover structure, 1 is a bearing for supporting a piston rod 3 attached to the end of a cylinder 2, and a through hole 4 is provided through a part of the bearing. 5
is the outer shell, and there is a bearing 1 on the inner circumference of this.
and the oil seal 6, the cut piece 7 at the opening at one end of the outer shell 5 is caulked in the inner diameter direction, and the oil seal 6 is inserted through the washer 8.
The oil seal 6 and the bearing 1 are fixed in the outer shell 5 by roll caulking or intermittent caulking on a part of the outer periphery of the outer shell 5. 9 is the caulking part. Reference numeral 10 denotes a cap-shaped stopper attached to the end of the outer shell 5, and a plurality of protrusions 11 are provided on the inner periphery of the outer cylindrical portion 10a by caulking, and these are press-fitted and fixed to the end of the outer shell 5. This stopper 10 is designed to cover the part where the paint has peeled off near the cut piece 7. A gap is formed between each protrusion 11 and the outer shell 5, and air is vented from the space 12 between the end of the outer shell 5 and the stopper 10 through this gap. In addition, 13 is the L-shaped core metal of the oil seal 6;
14 and 15 are seal lips 6 of oil seal 6
It is an elastic body fitted to the outer periphery of a and 6b.

However, in such a conventional shock absorber, the stopper 10 has a cap shape and is press-fitted to the 5 end of the outer shell, which increases the number of man-hours required for deep drawing of the cap, and The diameter also increased, leading to a rise in material costs and processing costs.

The present invention solves these conventional problems, and in particular, a disk-shaped stopper is welded to the end face of the cut piece at the upper end of the outer shell other than the cut piece that is caulked in the inner diameter direction. An object of the present invention is to provide a shock absorber having an inexpensive strut top cover mounting structure by fixing the strut and reducing the number of materials and man-hours used.

FIG. 2 is a partially cutaway front view of the shock absorber according to the present invention. Note that the same components as in FIG. 1 are denoted by the same reference numerals, and detailed explanation thereof will be omitted. That is, in FIG. 2, 7a is a plurality of cut pieces 7 that are left without being caulked in the inner diameter direction, and an appropriate number of cut pieces 7a are left between the plurality of caulked notch pieces 7b. It stands out at a certain distance. Reference numeral 16 denotes a disk-shaped stopper, which is formed to have a diameter somewhat larger than the outer diameter of the outer shell 5, and has a through hole 16a in the center thereof through which the piston rod 3 freely passes, and a stopper 16 on the opposite side from the outer shell 5. A shallow recess 16b is formed on the side surface.
This recess 16b is adapted to receive a bump rubber attached to the piston rod 3. This disc-shaped stopper 16 is fixed to the end faces of the plurality of cut pieces 7a by welding so that it cannot be easily removed.

In the shock absorber having such a structure, the shape of the stopper 16 is smaller than that of the conventional one, and the structure is simpler, so the material and processing costs can be reduced and the weight can be reduced, and the piston rod 3 can be prevented from entering the cylinder 2. When the bump rubber comes into contact with the stopper 16, the air in the cavity of the bump rubber can escape to the outside through the through hole 16a, the space 12, and between the cut pieces 7a and 7b, and the desired result is achieved. A buffering effect can be obtained.

As explained above, according to the present invention, the bearing and oil seal installed inside the outer shell are fixed by caulking from the outside of the outer shell, and the plate-shaped stopper is placed in the inner diameter direction of the cut piece of the outer shell. The stopper itself can be made smaller by being fixed by welding to the end face of something that will not be crimped, and additional processing such as drawing is not required, reducing material and labor costs as well as overall weight. Practical effects such as improved performance can be obtained.
