Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a molding which is sufficiently deodrized and is useful for furnishings, household goods, vehicles, interior finish materials, components of household appliances, etc., by treating a thremosetting dicyclopentadiene resion molding with an aq. soln. contg. an acid compd., a basic compd, and/or an ampholytic compd. CONSTITUTION:Dicyclopentadiene is molded by a metathesis reaction to obtain a thermosetting dicyclopentadiene resin molding. An acid compd. such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, an org. mono- or polybasic acid, etc., a basic compd. such as HaOH, NH3, an amine, etc., and/or an ampholytic compd. such as an amino acid, protein, a betaine type ampholytic compd., etc. are/is dissolved in water or a water-soluble solvent such as methanol in such an amount as to give a concn, of 0.01-10wt%. The molding is immersed in the resulting soln. at 0-50 deg.C for one min to one week and then dried.

In recent years, thermosetting dicyclopentadiene resin molded products made from dicyclopentadiene as a raw material, with the addition of catalysts and activators, and cured at room temperature and low pressure, have been in the spotlight due to their flexibility and excellent impact resistance. It's floating.

The shaped bodies generally contain one stock solution containing a metathesis catalyst, such as a tungsten-containing compound, an activator for the metathesis catalyst system,
For example, it is obtained by filling another stock solution containing alkylaluminium halide into a mold from a separate head, causing a reaction, and curing it. Gen monomers tend to remain (odors are unpleasant). For this reason, the molded products can only be used in limited applications such as automobile exterior parts, and odor control has become an important issue.

In order to solve these problems, the inventor of the present invention, as a result of extensive studies, has decided to immerse a thermosetting dicyclopentadiene resin molded article in an aqueous liquid containing an acid compound, a basic compound, and/or an amphoteric compound. The inventors have discovered that molded objects can be deodorized by this method, leading to the present invention.
