2−[Industrial Field of Application] The present invention relates to a cyanoindan derivative compound used in a liquid crystal electro-optical element and a liquid crystal composition containing the same. [Prior Art] Liquid crystal display elements have begun to be used in various applications such as watches and calculators, and in recent years, measuring instruments, automobile instruments, copiers, cameras, etc., and have a wide operating temperature range, low operating voltage, and high speed response. There are various performance requirements such as stability and chemical stability. However, at present, there is no single material that satisfies all of these characteristics, and a liquid crystal composition that satisfies the required performance is obtained by mixing a plurality of liquid crystal and non-liquid crystal materials. For this reason, it is desired to develop liquid crystal or non-liquid crystal materials that are excellent not only in all of the various properties but also in one or both of the properties. [Problems to be Solved by the Invention] Conventionally used liquid crystal display elements using liquid crystal compositions have had drawbacks such as high operating voltage due to small dielectric anisotropy. [Means for solving the problem] The present invention provides a new material in order to solve the above-mentioned problem, and has a general formula (wherein R is a linear alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, -1,4
The liquid crystal composition is a cyanoindane derivative compound represented by --disubstituted cyclohexane ring, and contains at least one thereof in the composition. The compound of the general formula (1) of the present invention has large positive dielectric anisotropy, has excellent compatibility with other liquid crystals or non-liquid crystals, and is a chemically stable material, As a liquid crystal composition, it is a material suitable for lowering the driving voltage. The compound of formula (I) of the present invention is used as a liquid crystal composition by mixing at least one type with another liquid crystal or non-liquid crystal. Examples of the substances to be mixed as the compound of the present invention include the following. In addition, R, R' in the following formula

After providing and patterning electrodes such as 9n02, an overcoat of polyimide, Si02, etc. is formed as necessary, alignment treatment is performed, a sealing material is printed on this, and the electrode surfaces are arranged so as to face each other. After sealing the periphery and curing the sealing material, a composition containing the compound of the present invention is injected, and the injection port is covered with a sealant to form a liquid crystal cell. This liquid crystal cell is laminated with a polarizing plate, a color polarizing plate, a light source, a color filter, a semi-transmissive reflector, a light guide plate, an ultraviolet cut filter, etc., as required, and is subjected to non-glare processing. A liquid crystal element is obtained by doing the same. Note that the above explanation merely shows the basic structure and manufacturing method of a liquid crystal element, and for example, a substrate using two-layer electrodes, two
Various configurations can be used, such as a two-layer liquid crystal cell having two liquid crystal layers formed thereon. The compound of general formula (I) of the present invention is produced, for example, by the following method. That is, the monobromo compound (m) is obtained by treating the compound of formula (II) with bromine in the presence of a catalyst such as iron powder. This (m
) is reacted with cupric cyanide to form the general formula (I
) is obtained. When X is -c-o- or -oc-, the compound (II) can be produced by a conventional esterification method. When X represents one covalent bond, it can be produced, for example, by the following method. (In the formula, X represents -. covalent bond.) That is, (
The compound of TV) is benzylated at the α-position of the carboxylic acid with benzyl chloride in the presence of a strong base to obtain the compound of V). Next, a ring-closing reaction is performed under acidic conditions to obtain the compound (Vl). The target compound (II) is obtained by treating the obtained compound (Vl) with a reducing agent such as hydrazine. Moreover, when X is -CHzCIh-, it is produced, for example, by the following method. (In the formula, X represents -CH2CH2-) That is, it was prepared from the compound of formula 1 (■) and magnesium. A Grignard reagent and indane-2-carboxylic acid chloride are reacted in the presence of a coupling catalyst to obtain a compound of formula (■). By treating this (■) with a reducing agent such as hydrazine, the desired compound (■) can be obtained. Note that these manufacturing methods are merely examples, and various manufacturing methods can be used. [Example] Hereinafter, the present invention will be specifically explained using an example. ■ Indane-2-carboxylic acid chloride obtained by mixing with Q and heating under reflux for 6 hours to distill off excess thionyl chloride and the solvent and 31.1 g of Fe(acac) in THF 200
The previously prepared Grignard reagent, which had been mixed and stirred in mQ, was added dropwise at -15° C. over 30 minutes. Thereafter, the internal temperature was raised to room temperature by 1, and stirring was continued overnight. After the reaction was completed, the mixture was diluted with 240 mQ of 8% hydrochloric acid. The reaction mixture was opened, extracted with chloroform, washed with water, dried over magnesium sulfate, and then the solvent was distilled off. The remaining orange residue was recrystallized twice from n-hexane, and 27.0 g (0,0711 mol) of the obtained formula % and hydrazine hydrate 9 were obtained.

After washing with 3% sodium hydroxide and water, it was dried over magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was distilled off. The orange residue was subjected to Kugelrohr distillation, and the resulting fungi-colored solid was recrystallized from a mixed solvent of ethanol and n-hexane, and 1.1 g (2.5 mmol) of the compound of formula % and cupric cyanide were added. 0.37 g (3.8 mmol) was mixed with 40 taQ of N-methylpyrrolidone and stirred day and night at 170-175° C. After cooling the reaction mixture to room temperature. The mixture was poured into a 10% ammonia solution, stirred well, extracted with chloroform, washed with water, dried, and the solvent was distilled off, leaving a dark green solid. After Kugelrohr distillation, it was decolorized using an alumina column, and recrystallized twice from a mixed solvent of ethanol and n-hexane. A standard NMR is shown in FIG.
