PURPOSE:To enable initialization of an enlarged character through the main body of a printer by providing an initialization circuit consisting of a switch for initialization of one of many character enlargement functions and a control circuit which outputs an initialization signal in accordance with the status of the switch. CONSTITUTION:When switches 11-13 are OFF, an ordinary character 21 is initialized by a control circuit. When the switch 11 alone is turned ON, a character which is doubled vertically is initialized by the control circuit 3. When the switch 12 is turned ON, a doubled character 23 is initialized. Further both switches 11, 12 being turned ON, a character which is doubled vertically and horizontally is initialized, and in this case, the combination of switches 11, 13 initializes vertically double and horizontally triple character enlargement. When the switches 12, 13 are turned ON simultaneously, the switch 12 is preferred by a control circuit 2.
