Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an easy-to-use original discharging device corresponding to various kinds of original by providing a control means which operates a discharging means after the read of an original image according to original thickness data from an original thickness detecting means which detects the thickness of an original. CONSTITUTION:An index 2 indicating an original setting position is provided on original platen glass 1 and an image reading means (not shown in figure) is provided on the reverse surface of the original platen glass 1. An original discharge tray 3 is arranged at the reference end part of the original platen glass 1. When an operator depresses a start switch 11, the original image is read and it is judged the original is a sheet original at the end of a microswitch 8 is turned on; and dischargeable thickness is recognized, a motor (not shown in figure) which drives an original discharging roller 7 is driven, and a roller 7 is rotated to discharge the original. Further, when a thick sheet original like a book is mounted on the original platen glass 1, the microswitch 8 is turned off, so it is recognized that the original is too thick to discharge and the motor which drives the roller 7 is not driven to perform no original discharging operation.

"Prior Art and Problems to be Solved by the Invention" Conventionally, a document mounting table of an image reading device, a copying machine, etc. has a transparent document table glass and a document pressing plate arranged on the top surface of the glass plate for pressing the document downward. It was configured to have an optical system and an illumination system on the lower surface of the document table glass. The operator positions the original in the designated position on the document table glass with the image reading side facing down, and
After that, the document pressure plate was pressed against the back of the document to prevent the document from floating or shifting, and then the image reading switch was turned on to read the image, and then the document pressure plate was opened and the document was taken out. . Therefore, do not open and close the document pressure plate every time you set a document (it is very annoying and inconvenient). Because of this, you cannot quickly raise the document pressure plate when you get up from the spot after image reading is completed, which results in a loss of time. Also, when setting the document, be careful not to shift the position. Although the original pressure plate was closed, care had to be taken to prevent the original from flying out when taking out the original.Furthermore, in copy machines, etc., the ratio of the work of making several copies from one original was increased. There were many cases where I would set the original, close the original pressure plate, press the copy start button, get a copy, and then immediately walk away, leaving the original under the pressure plate and forgetting about it.

In addition, conventional automatic document feeders (hereinafter referred to as A
However, this ADF has many restrictions on the size of originals that can be transported, as well as the prohibition of curls, wrinkles, holes, etc. Because the document above may be misaligned in the vertical and horizontal directions due to feeding accuracy or slippage, there are few operators who use the ADF to feed the entire sheet document, especially when scanning images of small documents or multiple documents. When reading images by arranging originals on the document tray, or when accurate alignment without misalignment is required, place the originals manually on the document tray and use the ADF, similar to copying machines without ADFs. The belt portion of the document is used simply as a document pressure plate for copying or image reading. However, ADF uses belts and conveyance means 1. C
Because of the mover stage, etc., it is heavier and more rigid than a normal document pressure plate, so opening and closing the ADF every time you change a document is extremely painful, and the high rigidity also makes it difficult to hold the document. Not only was it not possible to take advantage of the advantages of ADF, but there were also many disadvantages.

In addition, the ADF is large, heavy, and expensive because it is a driving means and conveyance means, and although it is effective for users who often make copies of many originals, in reality, there are many users who often make copies of several originals. It was not very useful for users. A similar problem also occurs in image reading devices and the like that are equipped with an automatic document ejection device.

Although we have given an example in which the height of the document pressure plate 5 is determined using only the hinge portions 4 and 4' of the document pressure plate 5, the height of the document pressure plate 5 itself may be determined without being limited to this. Without the document pressing plate 5, as shown in FIG. 7, substantially parallel light is directed toward the document from a light source 20 onto the document table glass 1 as a document placing table, and at least one light receiving element 21 is provided on the opposite side of the document. Alternatively, the document thickness may be determined according to the amount of light directed to the light-receiving element 21.
