When cooling hot materials such as hot rolled steel with a cooling header having a slit-type nozzle (hereinafter simply referred to as a slit header), the cooling water spouted from the nozzle flows into a wide, continuous stream. Since it falls in a curtain-like laminar flow, it is extremely effective as a means for uniformly cooling the surface of a hot material. However, since the cooling system operates simultaneously by installing a large number of slit headers at regular intervals, for example, in slit header N1 , as shown in FIGS. A part of the cooling water 12 dropped from the header N2 flows over the material 1 and reaches the header.
A so-called dry spell occurs that reaches the area immediately below the N 1 eruption. For this reason, the cooling water 11 spouted from the header N 1 did not directly act effectively on the surface of the material 1, resulting in a reduction in the cooling effect. This tendency was particularly noticeable in cooling headers having slit-type nozzles. However, the current situation is that conventional cooling means do not take any measures against such interference phenomenon of cooling water.

On the other hand, as a cooling header that has been widely used in the past, there is a cooling header having a pipe type nozzle (hereinafter simply referred to as a pipe header). As shown in FIG. 3, this pipe header 3 is equipped with a large number of pipe nozzles 31, and the cooling water falling from each nozzle locally interferes with each other, so that the cooling water stagnates on the rolled material 1. A phenomenon in which the cooling water flows all together and vigorously in the rolling direction does not occur. However, this pipe header has a lower cooling capacity than the slit header described above.

Therefore, an object of the present invention is to use a slit header as the main equipment for cooling, and to use a pipe header as an auxiliary between the slit header to prevent interference of cooling water and to effectively achieve the same. The object of the present invention is to provide a reliable method for cooling hot materials.

By arranging the headers in this way, the cooling water 1 falling from the adjacent slit header 2
1 and 12 remain on the hot rolled material 1 but do not interfere with each other due to the cooling water 13 falling from the pipe header 3.

<Example> Hot rolled material thickness: 3.5 mm Threading speed: 500 m/min Rolling mill outlet temperature: 870°C Slit header inlet temperature: 670°C Coiling temperature: 550°C Slit header pitch: 6 m x 6 units (Each slit/header spacing) Pipe/Header/Pitch: 1m x 5 (Each header spacing) Cooling result: Figure 5 In Figure 5, curve A shows the results obtained by the method of the present invention, and curve B shows the results for comparison. The results of the conventional method are shown respectively. As can be seen from the figure, according to the method of the present invention, the cooling effect can be improved by about 20% compared to the conventional method using the same flow rate of cooling water.
