Such an apparatus can be a relatively compact installation if the sheets to be joined are reasonably small. However, if this seat is wide, the table on which the seat is placed also needs to be correspondingly large. For example, if two sheets 3 m wide and 6 m long are to be joined horizontally side by side, a table measuring 6 m in length and width is required, which requires very large equipment. It is impossible to use this device as is when it comes to joining long and wide sheets wound on reels.

That is, the sheet end surface joining device of the present invention has a first
a supply that simultaneously supplies a sheet and a second sheet, and a cylindrical guide that molds the two sheets into a cylindrical shape with the end surfaces of the first sheet and the second sheet abutted and transports the sheet in the axial direction of the cylinder. The present invention is characterized in that it is comprised of an end surface heating tool that heats and fuses the end surfaces of the two sheets butted together within the cylindrical guide, and a winding device that winds up the joined and integrated sheets.

In the figure, for example, a first sheet 1 and a second sheet 2 are wound around separate supplies 3 and 4, respectively. A forming roller group 5, a cylindrical guide 6, a sheet spreading roller 7, a pressing roller 8, and a winding device 9 are provided in this order on this sheet transport path.

Further, a pneumatic pipe 10 is inserted into the cylindrical guide 6 in the axial direction of the cylinder. An appropriate number of stays 11 are installed radially around the outer periphery of the pneumatic pipe 10, and these stays support the presser plate 12. This presser plate 12 presses the sheets 1 and 2 from the inner surface of the cylindrical guide 6.
They are placed at intervals slightly wider than the wall thickness. A large number of through holes 13 are provided in each of the cylindrical guide 6 and the pneumatic pipe 10.

Further, an end surface heating device 15, a sheet end surface pressing roller 16, and a sheet end surface receiving roller 17 are provided at a location where the abutted end surfaces 14 of the first sheet 1 and the second sheet 2 run.

First, the first sheet 1 and the second sheet 2 are sent out from the supplies 3 and 4 in the direction of the arrow 18. At this time, the opposing end surfaces 14 of both sheets are transported while being abutted against each other, and are gradually formed into a cylindrical shape by the forming roller group 5 and enter the cylindrical guide 6. In order to make molding smooth, the roller group 5 can also be forcibly rotated.

Both sheets advance within the cylindrical guide 6 while being held in a cylindrical shape by the cylindrical guide 6 and the presser plate 12. If air is forced in through the through hole 13 of the pneumatic pipe 10 and exhausted through the through hole 13 of the cylindrical guide 6, it is easier to maintain the shape of the sheet.

The abutting end surfaces 14 of both sheets are pressed from above by an end pressing roller 16 and supported from below by an end receiving roller 17, and an appropriate surface pressure is applied by the sheet's own weight. A heating piece of an end face heating tool 15 is inserted between the end faces 14.

FIG. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the end surface heating tool 15, which has a guide blade 21 and a heating piece 22 below the heater 20. After positioning the sheet end surface 14 with the guide blade 21, the heating piece 22 is used to heat the sheet. End face 14

As shown in FIG. 4, spiral ribs 23 are provided symmetrically on the outer periphery of the end face receiving roller 17, and by driving this roller 17, even stronger pressure can be applied to the end faces of both sheets.

In this way, the two sheets whose end surfaces are heat-fused and joined together are separated into a group of sheet pushing and spreading rollers 7.
The sheet is returned to its original flat state by the rollers 8, and after being shaped by the presser roller 8, it is wound up by the winding device 9. Similarly to the forming roller group 5, it is advantageous to forcibly drive the sheet spreading roller group 7.

Example 1 A foamed polyethylene sheet with a width of 1.5 m, a length of 10 m, and a thickness of 6 mm was transported at a speed of 10 m per minute and heat-fused by applying pressure on the end surface using only the sheet's own weight. We were able to create an integrated joint with almost no residual strain.

As described above, the apparatus of the present invention can join and integrate wide sheets in a small space. Further, during the heat-sealing operation of the sheet end surface, the pressure applied to the end surface can be based on the sheet's own weight, and an appropriate pressure with little fluctuation can be applied.
