Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a cover from being faded due to produced heat by arranging in the vicinity of a luminous tube, a ballast having the cover capable of reflecting light on a surface confronting to the luminous tube, and providing a gap between the cover and ballast coil. CONSTITUTION:A double U-shaped luminous tube2 and a ballast 3 having a white colored cover 7 capable of reflecting light provided on a surface confronting the luminous tube 2 are connected with a base 1, and they are housed within a globe 15, whereby a discharge lamp device connectable with a socket of an incandescent lamp is constructed. Thereupon, a gap 8 is provided between the inner surface of the cover 7 and the outer surface of the coil 5 of the ballast 3 to prevent both the surfaces from being brought into contact with each other. Thus, heat generated in the coil 5 in turning on the lamp is prevented from being directly transmitted to the cover 7, whereby temperature rise of the cover 7 is restricted to prevent the cover from being thermally faded, and thus efficiency of reflection can satisfactorily maintained.
