Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent inferiority in the width of a steel belt from occurring, by forming an electrical circuit loop including trimming chips which is generated upon side trimming of both widthwise ends of the steel belt so that the trimming process of the steel belt is observed. CONSTITUTION:A steel belt 2 is severed at its both ends by means of side trimmers 4 having upper and lower circular blades, and therefore, continuous trimming chips 6 are generated. Each trimming chip 6 moves along a guide 8, and is held between electrode rolls 10A, 10B and counter rolls 12. The rolls 10A, 10B are connected together through a power source 14 and a relay 16 to establish an electrical circuit loop. The relay 16 is connected to a warning device 18. The generation of the trimming chips 6 which means that the electrical isolation is interrupted, the relay 16 is energized to operate the warning device 18 to alert the stopping of severance.

In order to guarantee the product width, measures have been taken to prevent meandering of the copper strip during trimming, but recently, due to increased line speeds and reduced trimming to improve yield, the plate 11 (2) If there is fluctuation or meandering, cutting by the side trimmer is likely to be interrupted or inhibited. If the cutting of the end is interrupted, a defective width portion of the steel strip will occur, and the defective width portion is detected by observing the side of the steel strip, measuring the width of the steel strip, or inspecting the surface. The product may be contaminated with

In order to prevent these width defects, a number of methods have been used to monitor trimming operations. For example, devices that detect the edge of the steel strip using a magnetic method are not reliable because the dimensions and shape of the edge change. The method of monitoring the edge of the steel strip using an optical method has drawbacks such as the difficulty of detecting minute width changes with high precision.

It is natural that trimming waste is generated when trimming is performed, but conversely, if trimming waste is not generated, the steel strip is not caught in the side trimmer, and therefore trimming is not performed and the width of the steel strip is defective. However, the present invention focuses on whether or not this trimming debris is generated.

本発明の詳細を第1図の例により説明する。The details of the present invention will be explained using the example of FIG.

In the present invention, as described above, the trimming scraps 6 form a current-carrying loop, so when the trimming work is normally performed, the current is energized, but when the cutting is stopped, the trimming scraps 6 form a current-carrying loop. When the alarm no longer occurs, the energization loop is broken and the energization is cut off, so the alarm device 1 is connected via the relay 16.
