Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable sealing and bonding between gaps to be simultaneously carried out by imparting expandability to an adhesive, by incorporating a blowing agent or a synthetic resin which can be expanded by heating, into an adhesive. CONSTITUTION:An expansable adhesive is obtd. by incorporating a blowing agent or a synthetic resin which can be expanded by heating, in an adhesive. For example, a fine synthetic resin powder contg. a gas such as butane gas and having a diameter of 5-30mu is incorporated in the hardener of two-pack urethane adhesive. The fine powder is expanded by heat of reaction generated by the reaction between the main component and the hardener, whereby the adhesive is cured and expanded at the same time. Expansion ratio can be arbitrarily changed by changing the quantity of said resin.

Structure of conventional examples and their problems Conventionally, rubber-based, vinyl acetate-based, epoxy-based, urethane-based adhesives, etc., used for industrial and general purposes, have a tendency to evaporate their solvents or cause the two liquids to evaporate. As a result of the reaction, only the solid content remains and the adhesive solidifies, but adhesives that evaporate the solvent cause thinning, making it impossible to use them for purposes that combine adhesion and sealing. In addition, two-component reaction type adhesives and one-component thermosetting adhesives also tend to sag in areas with large gaps, making it impossible to use them for both gap sealing and adhesion. Therefore, in areas where sealing and adhesion are required, it is necessary to seal the gap with foamed resin such as foamed polyethylene, and then pour adhesive over it to perform bonding, which poses the problem of increasing the number of work steps.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION The present invention eliminates the drawbacks of the above-mentioned conventional examples, and provides a foaming property to the adhesive so that sealing between gaps and adhesion can be performed at the same time.

Structure of the Invention In order to achieve the above object, the present invention mixes a synthetic resin containing a gas that foams when heated into an adhesive, and heats the adhesive after bonding to create a seal between the gaps. Since it has both adhesive properties and heat insulation properties due to the use of synthetic resin, it can be used to bond areas where heat conduction is not desired, greatly expanding the range of adhesive applications.

In the present invention, the diameter of the synthetic resin containing a gas such as butane gas in the curing agent of a two-component reaction type urethane adhesive is 5 μm.
By mixing a fine powder of ~30 microns and using the reaction heat generated when the main resin and curing agent are mixed and reacted, the fine powder synthetic resin is expanded by about 4 times in diameter. The adhesive foams as it hardens. By changing the amount of the synthetic resin fine powder mixed in, the expansion ratio can also be changed arbitrarily.

Effects of the Invention In the present invention, since the adhesive contains a synthetic resin or a foaming agent that foams when heated, the adhesive foams to form both a seal between gaps and adhesion, and also improves heat insulation properties. Because of this, it can also be used for adhesion in areas that require heat insulation.Furthermore, the expansion ratio can be changed arbitrarily, and by increasing the expansion ratio, it has the effect of reducing the amount of adhesive used.
