Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify cleaning of the surface of a non-ferrous metal drawing, by using a specific water-soluble org. compd. as a wire drawing lubricant for a non-ferrous metal wire instead of conventional mineral oil-based lubricants and washing it out with water or steam. CONSTITUTION:At least one water-soluble org. compd. selected from the following four kinds of compds. is used as a wire drawing lubricant for non-ferrous wires: (1) ethylene glycol or propylene glycol and their homopolymers or copolymers; (2) aliph. and org. linear or cyclic monohydric or higher polyhydric glycol ethers and polyglycol ethers; (3) aliph. and org. linear or cyclic monohydric or higher polyhydric glycol esters and polyglycol esters; and (4) glycol ethers and polyglycol ethers of amino compds. contg. a prim. or sec. amino group or both of them.

First, since mineral oil-based lubricants have high viscosity, metal powder and dust tend to adhere to them, which poses a problem when using non-ferrous metal wires coated with lubricant. If the metal wire is high-purity aluminum wire for capacitors and you are trying to connect it to a tab terminal, weldability will be poor if lubricant is applied, so use a solvent to degrease the lubricant and clean the surface. There is a need to. Furthermore, when the metal wire is a welding wire, it is necessary to degrease it with a solvent such as trichloroethyl to remove the lubricant, but trichlorethyl is not only expensive but also requires a recovery device due to its toxicity. Moreover, it contains the possibility of causing environmental problems.

In particular, when the nonferrous metal wire is an aluminum welding wire or a high-purity aluminum wire for capacitors, it is advantageous because the surface can be degreased and cleaned using water or steam rather than an a-organic solvent such as trichloroethyl.

[Example] Example 1 Wire drawing of high-purity aluminum An aluminum wire rod of 9.5 mmφ or 11.7 mmφ was processed using a wire bar rolling mill or a continuous forging rolling mill using a polyethylene glycol-based lubricant as a lubricant. When the wire was drawn to a diameter of 0.5 to 2 .phi., good surface gloss and very clean surface quality were ensured.
