In addition to large-screen display devices using liquid crystal display devices (called . This. The illumination system of a conventional liquid crystal display element will be explained with reference to FIG. In Fig. 4, 1 is a glass substrate, 2 is an electrode, 3 is a color filter, and 4 is a glass substrate.
5 is a liquid crystal, 5 is an electrode, 6 is a glass plate, 7 is a polarizing plate, and 8 is a light source. Light radiated from a light source 8 such as a white fluorescent lamp is incident on the R, G, and B color filter layers 3. The light then enters the liquid crystal 4 and the amount of light is adjusted. The light that passes through it is mixed additively to form color pixels,
A color image is displayed on a glass plate 6.

In FIG. 4, reference numeral 9 denotes a resin cover as a transparent cover body, which is placed on the polarizing plate 7, and its end face is inclined at an acute angle. This resin cover 9 is made of, for example, acrylic resin. The glass substrate 1, the electrodes 2.5, the color filter 3, the liquid crystal 4, and the polarizing plate 7 constitute a liquid crystal display element body 10a, and the liquid crystal display element body 10 and the resin cover 9 constitute the liquid crystal display element 10a. is configured. Of course, the end faces of the resin cover 9 do not necessarily need to be inclined except for the adjacent portions of the liquid crystal display elements 10.
