There is a bill discriminating device installed in an automatic teller machine, which is a type of online terminal equipment for financial institutions, which discriminates the authenticity or type of bill based on this detection signal. In such banknote discriminating devices, stabilization of the detection signal is an important issue, and the mechanical points for stabilizing the detection signal are (1) the conveyance posture state of the banknote, which is the object to be detected; Stabilization of IJ (2) In particular, the detection of reflected light requires stabilization of the optical path length. In other words, even if the same banknote is detected under a stable light source, the conveyance state of the banknote will not be stable. Otherwise, the amount of reflected light and the amount of transmitted light will not be stable, and the detection signal will fluctuate greatly each time. Also, even if the banknote transport posture is stable, the optical path length must be stable. In this case, it is difficult to obtain a stable amount of reflected light, and the detection signal also fluctuates greatly from time to time. When such a problem occurs, many abnormal detections occur, making it difficult to obtain stable and accurate optical signals at all times. Detection becomes impossible.

The guide member includes at least one pair of guide members arranged opposite to each other, and at least one pair of conveyance rollers arranged near the front side of the guide member in the printed matter traveling direction that intersects the optical path of the guide member. By configuring the guide direction of the conveyance path formed by the conveyance path and the conveyance direction of the printed matter by the conveyance roller to form an acute angle, when conveying the printed matter, the printed matter is aligned with one of the guide members, and the printed matter is moved along the conveyance roller. It is designed to emit light from the darkness and stabilize the distance from the light source to the printed material.

, 2, a pair of guide plates 3.4 are disposed horizontally facing each other, and a conveyance path 5 for banknotes P is formed by these guide plates 3.4. In this case, the axis of the upper conveyance roller 1 is slightly shifted forward (toward the banknote P delivery side) than the axis of the lower conveyance roller 2, and both rollers 1.degree.2 are brought into pressure contact with each other. Thereby, the banknotes P carried out by the conveyance roller 1.degree. 2 first come into contact with the lower guide plate 4 at a predetermined angle α, and are then conveyed along the guide plate 4. A light source (for example, a fluorescent lamp) 6 and a light receiving element (for example, a line sensor) 7 for optically detecting information on the banknotes P are disposed near the banknote P delivery side of the transport rollers 1 and 2. has been done. In this case, the light from the light source 6 is irradiated onto the banknote P, and the reflected light is guided to the light receiving element 7 for photoelectric conversion, and the optical path from the light source 6 to the light receiving element 7 intersects with the conveyance path 5. are doing. In addition, 8 is a standard reflective plate, which receives the light from 6 and reflects it to the light receiving element 7 when the banknote P is not present. The output of the light-receiving element 7 is sent as a detection signal to a discriminating section (not shown), where the authenticity or type of banknote P is discriminated based on the detection signal.

Therefore, after passing the conveyance roller 1.2, the banknote P does not move vertically and maintains a constant distance from the light source 6, making it possible to always perform stable optical detection, which in turn reduces misidentification, etc.
It is possible to improve the discrimination performance.
