Abstract

PURPOSE:To correct exactly unreadable characters in an optical character reader by displaying in corresponding a video pattern of a read-out character to the read-out result of characters so as to display them when unreadable characters occur. CONSTITUTION:A controller 6 receives read-out position information of a document 1 as a character detection signal from a scanner controlling device 4, and stores a video signal in a memory 5. A discriminating device 7 reads out the video pattern from the memory 5 to discriminate characters and outputs the result to the controller 6. When the discrimination result includes unreadable characters, the controller 6 reads out the video pattern from the memory 5, combines it with the discriminated result, and displays the combination on a display screen 8. The controller 6 combines the discriminated result with the video pattern by a scan position signal received from the controlling device 4, and sets both of them to be matched. An operator discriminates characters from the video pattern displayed on the display screen 8 and the discriminated result, keys in correction data through a keyboard 9 and corrects unreadable characters.

Conventional optical character readers display a multi-character video pattern and only display unreadable characters, e.g.
Some things are brightly displayed and corrected. In this case,
Since we do not know how each pattern was read, it is difficult to correct it, especially if there is a cutting error.

Unfortunately, if only the reading results are to be displayed, they must be corrected in conjunction with the form, which complicates the operation.

For example, as shown in FIG. 2, the video pattern is displayed in correspondence with the video pattern. In addition,
The correspondence between the video pattern and the reading result can be changed, for example, by placing them in the lower row and upper row, or in the left and right rows.

The control device 6 provides a reading position signal to the scanner control device 4. A scanner controller 4 provides scanning information to the flying and spot scanners 2. The flying spot scanner 2 scans the read characters on the form 1, and the reflected light is received by the photoprinter 3. The electrical signal from the photomultiplier 3 is sent to the scanner control device 4. The scanner control device 4 sends a character detection signal, a scanning position signal, and a video turn to the control device 6. Upon receiving the character detection signal, the control device 6 stores the video signal in the memory 5 and activates the discrimination device 7.

The control device 6 supplies reading position information of the form 1 to the scanner control device 4, thereby causing the flying spot scanner 2 to scan characters at arbitrary positions. Also, the control device 6
is activated by the bidet control device 6 upon receiving a character detection signal from the scanner control device 4, reads out a video pattern from the memory 5, and performs character discrimination. The determination result is output to the control device 6. If there is an unreadable character in the discrimination result, the control device 6 reads the video pattern from the memory 5 and displays this video pattern and the discrimination result on the combination display 8. The control device 6 combines the discrimination results and the video patterns based on the scanning position signal received from the scanner control device 4 so that a plurality of video patterns and the discrimination results can be associated with each other on the screen of the display 8 . The operator discriminates the characters based on the video pattern displayed on the display 8 and the discrimination results.

1. In an optical character reading device that reads characters written on a form, a photoelectric conversion device outputs a scanning position signal and a video signal by optically scanning the characters, and a video signal from the photoelectric conversion device is input. a display device that displays a discrimination signal from the discrimination device and a video signal from the photoelectric conversion device; a character input device; and a control device that controls the transmission and reception of signals between the devices. If an unreadable character occurs during character reading, the control device displays the video signal and the discrimination signal in correspondence with each other on the display device based on the scanning position signal from the photoelectric conversion device, and inputs the unreadable character. An optical character reading device characterized in that input is performed using the device.
