Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a phenolic resin molding material which gives moldings for mechanical seal, which have excellent wear resistance, surface hardness, mechanical sealing properties and resistance to lowering in sliding torque at a low rotation speed, by blending artificial graphite with a phenolic resin. CONSTITUTION:Artificial graphite which has a high purity, less unevenness in particle size and is hardly cleared, and additives such as filler (e.g. glass fiber or talc), colorant, hardener, parting agent, etc., are mixed with a phenolic resin. The mixture is kneaded, crushed and optionally, granulated to obtain the desired phenolic resin molding material. Artificial graphite comprising 80-325-mesh particles is preferred and used in a quantity of pref. 40-85wt% based on the entire quantity of the material.

Conventionally, molded products for mechanical seals have been required to have wear resistance, surface hardness, mechanical sealability, resistance to sliding torque reduction at low rotation speeds, etc., and are usually made from phenolic resin molding materials containing natural graphite. The resulting molded product has been used, but natural graphite contains many impurities, has particle size variations, and is highly cleavable, so it has the problem of peeling and scraping during sliding.

The present invention is a phenolic resin molding material characterized by containing artificial graphite, so it contains graphite with high purity, no variation in particle size, and low cleavability, and has excellent wear resistance, surface hardness, and mechanical sealing properties. The present invention will be described in detail below.

That is, when the mesh is coarser than 80 mesh, the breakability tends to increase, and when the mesh is thinner than 325 mesh, the formability tends to decrease. Further, the amount of artificial graphite can be changed depending on the required wear resistance, but preferably the total amount is -50. ~85 weight!
It is desirable that it be Ikchi (hereinafter simply referred to as 迤), and if it is less than -6, that is, 50q/a, the wear resistance tends to decrease.
Fillers other than artificial graphite include cotton, pulp, wood flour,
Fibrous fillers such as polyvinyl alcohol fibers, polyamide fibers, polyester fibers, polyurethane fibers, glass fibers, asbestos fibers, and rock wool fibers, charcoal, and inorganic materials such as calcium, sodium hydroxide, phosphoric acid, carbonate magne 1 cum, Merck, and clay. Powder fillers and the like can be added as necessary. Examples of phenolic resins include phenolic resins consisting of individual or mixtures of phenols such as phenol, cresonol, xylenol, etc.
Furthermore, modified phenol resins such as naphthalene, Seimitsu, and Evoquin, which are compatible with phenol, may also be used.
