An embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to FIG. The figure schematically shows an automatic processing system for postal letters, where 1 is an automatic sorting, arranging and stamping machine, and 2 is an automatic reading and sorting machine. A direction changing section D consisting of, for example, a gate mechanism and a coupler B consisting of, for example, a conveyor are provided between these two. These automatic sorting, arranging and stamping machine 1, direction conversion unit D, coupling machine B, and automatic reading and sorting machine 2 form an independent processing system 3, and three of these processing systems 3 are installed in parallel. 4 is formed. In the diagram of the processing system 3 forming this sorting processing section 4, the rear automatic sorting, arranging and stamping machine 1 is CFC-1, the front automatic sorting, arranging and stamping machine 1 is CFC-2, and furthermore, The automatic sorting, arranging and stamping machine 1 in front of it is called CFC-3. Also,
Similarly, in the diagram of the processing system 3 forming the sorting processing section 4, the rear automatic reading sorting machine 2 is connected to the LGM-

-2, and the automatic reading and sorting machine 2 in front of it.
It is called LSM-3. In addition, 5 in the figure is a spare automatic reading and sorting machine (hereinafter referred to as LSM-4).
Like LSM-1, LSM-2, and LSM-3, LSM-4 is equipped with coupling machine B. Furthermore, what is indicated by a broken line in the figure is the conveyance path 6, and this conveyance path 6
is the above-mentioned spare
They are each arranged across the coupling machine B provided in LSM-4.

Postal letters to each CFC-1, CFC-2, CFC-3
When applied to each CFC-1, CFC-2, CFC-3
The postal letters are automatically sorted into postal letters that cause trouble during sorting and predetermined postal letters, and then the legitimate postal letters that have been sorted are collected and stamped one after another. It reaches each LSM-1, LSM-2, and LSM-3 via connector B. Then, each LSM-1, LSM-2, and LSM-3 reads the postal code written on the postal letter and sorts it into each postal code. Through these series of actions, postal letters are automatically sorted.

During the sorting process of this postal letter, for example LSM
-1 has a failure or a decline in sorting ability, the LSM-1 that has caused the abnormality will automatically stop, and the gate of the direction change section D of the stopped LSM-1 will automatically operate. The operation of this direction changing section D, that is, the normal LSM-
Unlike the conveyance direction in which the postal letter is conveyed to the conveyance path 6, the gate moves in the conveyance direction in which the postal letter is conveyed to the conveyance path 6, and as a result of this movement, the postal letter collected and stamped from the CFC-1 is transferred through the direction changing section D. conveyance path 6
leading to. Furthermore, the postal letters are conveyed along the conveyance path 6 by a conveyance mechanism (not shown), reach the LSM-4 via the connecting portion B, and are automatically sorted into mail pieces by the LSM-4.

In this way, when the LSM-1 malfunctions or its sorting capacity decreases, the direction change unit D automatically operates depending on the situation and transfers the postal letter sent from the CFC-1 to the conveyance path 6. Then, it is automatically transported along the transport path 6 to LSM-4
Since the classification process is performed in -4, LSM
This eliminates the need for manpower to deal with postal letters sent from CFC-1 due to failure of CFC-1. Therefore, it is possible to greatly contribute to labor saving and improve processing efficiency.

In addition, in the above explanation, we talked about cases such as failure of LSM-1, but in case of failure of LSM-2 or
It goes without saying that even if the LSM-3 fails, the direction changing section D will automatically operate and the postal letter will be conveyed to the LSM-4 via the conveyance path 6 in the same way as the LSM-1.

As explained above, according to the present invention, a direction changing section is provided between each automatic sorting, arranging and stamping machine and each automatic reading and sorting machine constituting the sorting processing section, and furthermore, a spare automatic A conveyance path leading to the reading and sorting machine is provided, and the postal letters from each automatic sorting, arranging, and stamping machine are automatically conveyed to a spare automatic reading and sorting machine via a direction change unit and a conveyance path, and this spare automatic reading and sorting machine is installed. Since the sorting process is carried out by the machine, it is possible to eliminate the need for manpower to deal with postal letters sent from the automatic sorting, sorting, stamping machine due to failure of the automatic reading and sorting machine. Therefore, it is possible to greatly contribute to labor saving and to improve processing efficiency. Furthermore, since the postal letter, that is, the item to be processed, is guided to the standby automatic reading and sorting machine by the direction change unit and the conveyance path, there is no need to take time to switch from the automatic reading and sorting machine in the sorting unit to the standby automatic sorting machine. Not only that, but the device does not need to be large-scale.
