Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate an object moving in a high speed by reading a still picture stored in a picture memory to read a code appearing on the still picture. CONSTITUTION:Suppose that an object 11 with a code 10 is moved on a belt 12. A sensor 13 detects the object 11, a detection signal is fed to a controller 14, which lights a strobo 15. An image pickup device 16 is activated synchronously therewith to pick up the object 11 as a still picture, which is stored in a picture memory 17. A processor 19 applies a proper processing to a required part of the picture to read a code added to the object. Since the code is read from the still picture, the code is identified with the comparatively simple method. Further, a terminal device is used to output or collect the result of discrimination.

In the code reading method according to the present invention, a flash of light is generated in response to an object detection signal, a still image is taken by an imager in synchronization with the flash, this still image is stored in an image memory, and the image memo is stored in the image memory. The present invention is characterized in that a stored still image is read out and a code printed on the still image is read out.

A processor 19 is used to read the still image stored in the image memory 7 and determine the code. This process applies appropriate processing to the necessary parts of the image and continues the code attached to the object. Since it is read from a still image, it can be identified using a relatively simple method.
