Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the speed of cut off and lengthen the life of a combined wire, by spirally winding a wire on another wire to provided the combined wire to forcibly move abrasive grains. CONSTITUTION:A wire 2 is spirally wound on another wire 1 so that a spiral recess is made on the peripheral surface of a combined wire. When the combined wire is reciprocated, abrasive grains supplied in between the combined wire and a workpiece are forcibly reciprocated therebetween to heighten the efficiency of grinding by the abrasive grains and the speed of cut off. Each of the wires 1, 2 is either a single wire or a composite wire and is made of such a metal of high tensile strength and hardness as steel and tungsten.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Field of Industrial Application] The present invention relates to a wire for a wire saw used for cutting hard materials such as semiconductors 1 and ceramics.

A wire saw uses a hard metal wire with high tensile strength such as piano wire or tungsten wire, and presses it against the workpiece while reciprocating under tension, and creates carporundum powder between the metal wire and the workpiece. The workpiece is ground and cut by pouring hard abrasive grains such as, and moving the abrasive grains as the metal wire moves.

The saw wires currently in use have a smooth surface, so the power to move the abrasive grains is weak and cutting speed cannot be improved.

In order to prevent relative displacement between the wire and the abrasive grains,
A metal coating such as copper, nickel, solder, or brass is applied, and the force of pressing the wire against the workpiece causes the abrasive grains to bite into the coating layer of the wire, causing relative displacement between the wire and the abrasive grains. A device designed to prevent wire abrasion is known from Japanese Patent Publication No. 14873/1983, but the coating layer is such that abrasive grains can easily dig into it, and the coating layer wears out in a short period of time. The end result is a wire with a smooth surface without a coating layer, which reduces the cutting speed.

The metal wire around which the metal wire is wound may be a single wire or a plurality of wires. The metal wire to be wound spirally is not limited to a single wire; a plurality of metal wires may be wound in a single layer or multiple layers, or a stranded wire may be wound in the same way as a double layer or triple layer. The metal wire used is made of a hard material with high tensile strength, such as piano wire or tungsten wire. The metal wire can be wrapped tightly, or it can be wrapped so that there are gaps between the wires.

When the wire is reciprocated, the abrasive grains supplied between the wire and the workpiece can be forcibly reciprocated by the spiral groove formed on the outer shield by the wound metal wire. Grindability due to grains can be improved and cutting speed can be increased. In addition, the metal wire at the center is protected from abrasion caused by abrasive grains by the spirally wound metal wire and does not wear out, so there is no possibility of wire breakage other than breakage due to defects in the material or wire manufacturing process.

I made the wire. This was cut under certain conditions using a wire saw, together with a wire made of a single piano wire with an outer diameter of 0.16 fi, and a copper-plated wire made of piano wire with an outer diameter of 0.14 m and copper plating applied to a thickness of 10 μm. When we conducted a comparison test on the cutting speed of ceramics, we found that if the cutting speed of solid piano wire is 100, the cutting speed of copper-plated wire is 120.
