Abstract

PURPOSE:To display plural colors by forming a TN type liquid crystal layer and a GH type liquid crystal layer as liquid crystal cell having the structure of two layers and arranging polarizing plates on the front and back of the liquid crystal cell. CONSTITUTION:Color display is switched by turning on and off the TN type liquid crystal layer 16 and the GH type liquid crystal layer 17. When a red polarizing plate is used as a polarizing plate 11, blue dichroic coloring matter molecules are adopted as the coloring matter molecules of the layer 17 and a coloreless polarizing plate is used for a polarizing plate 15, the dispaly operations of respective modes 1-4 shown in the Table 1 are executed.
