Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain simplicity of mechanism, low power consumption, high speed and low noise by forming the load/unload mechanism of a magnetic head through the utilization of a deflection of a gimbal caused by a piezoelectric element. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic head 6 is fitted to one end of the gimbal 5 formed with a thin plate made of stainless steel and the other ened of the gimbal 5 is fixed to a head mobing mechanism 1. The piezoelectric element 2 vapor- posited with conductive thin film 3 is adhered on both faces. Wiring is applied to the piezoelectric element 2 so as to apply a voltage via a switch 4 and the conductive thin film 3. In closing the switch 4, the voltage is applied via the conductive thin film 3 to the piezoelectric element 2 and the piezoelectric element 2 is prolonged in facial direction, then a bent is caused to the gimbal 5. Thus, the magnetic head 6 fitted to a free end contacts the face of a floppy disc 7. The mechanism is simplified, and low power consumption, high speed and low noise are attained in this way.
