Abstract

PURPOSE:To set optimum squelch level without confirming a set level by a scale by comparing an input electric field strength voltage applied to an input terminal and a squelch level and connecting a sound output when the electric field strength voltage is larger. CONSTITUTION:A DC voltage proportional to an input electric field of a receiver is applied to a terminal 21 and given to each one input of 10 comparators 40- 49. A standard voltage divided by a resistor 31 is applied to other terminal 22. The output is set in the order of the comparators 40-49 as the input electric field to the terminal 21 rises, a diode corresponding to a light emitting diode array 110 is lighted sequentially. Each output of comparators 50-59 to which an output of a variable resistor 32 adjusting the squelch level is applied is also given to a light emitting diode array 120. A comparator 60 compares the input electric field strength voltage with the squelch level and when the electric field strength voltage is larger, an on-output is given to a terminal 23 so as to apply on/off-control to the sound output of a sound amplifier 7.

FIG. 1 shows an example of the configuration of a conventional receiver to explain this squelch circuit. Radio waves entering from the antenna 1 are amplified by a high frequency amplifier 2, mixed with the output of a local oscillator 3 by a mixer 4, and converted to an intermediate frequency. The output of the intermediate frequency filter 5 is converted into an audio frequency by a frequency discriminator 6, and is output to a speaker 8 via an amplifier 7. On the other hand, the noise component of the output of the frequency discriminator 6 passes through the squelch level adjuster 9 and is amplified and detected by the noise amplification detector ]O, which turns off or closes the output of the amplifier 7 depending on the amount of noise.

As shown in FIG. 2, the squelch level adjustment operation section C is provided with a solenoid 12 in a part of the housing 11 that is easy to operate, so that the operator can adjust the squelch level to an appropriate level. Note that some receivers may be equipped with an input electric field indicator called an S meter 15.

In this way, in conventional receivers, the setting of the squelch level relies on the intuition of the operator, who must make adjustments using the scale 13, and even if the sensitivity of the receiver fluctuates. There was a problem that the operator could not clearly distinguish between the two.
