Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the space between the record/reproduction and erasion head magnetic poles and to reduce the reduction of the effective track width in the diameter direction, by setting a record/reproduction coil and an erasion coil close to and distance away from a magnetic recording medium respectively. CONSTITUTION:A vertical magnetic recording head is provided with a record/ reproduction head 10, an erasion head 20, a main magnetic pole 11 of an R/W head 10, a magnetic pole 15 of the head 20, a support substrate 12, a soft magnetic substance 14 obtained by replacing a part of the substrate 12, a winding groove 17 for R/W, a record/reproduction coil 13 and an erasion coil 16. The coils 13 and 16 are set on different levels of stages and therefore the space between poles 11 and 15 is reduced. This reduces the decrease of the effective track width in the diameter direction.
