PURPOSE:To eliminate ill effects which may be caused by exhaustion of acid by neutralizing a sulfuric acid mist and sulfuric acid contained in a vapor exhausted together with gas by installing a porous body impregnated with an alkaline or weakly alkaline compound over the exhaust hole of a storage battery. CONSTITUTION:A sheet-like porous body 7 impregnated with an alkaline or a weakly alkaline compound is installed over an exhaust hole 6 by connection, sticking or the like. The porous body 7 is prepared from either a porous nonwoven fabric or paper-like material consisting of a polypropylene resin, a polyethylene resin, an acrylic resin or the like or an inorganic material such as glass fiber.
