Abstract

1. Spray nozzle with hemispherical head comprising two slots (14) which are symmetrically arranged with respect to a plane (X-X) containing the axis (Y-Y) of the nozzle and the median planes of which are sloping with respect to the said symmetry plane, characterized by the fact that both slots (14) are arranged so as to produce a common stream, by the fact that the angle (alpha) formed by the median plane of each slot with the symmetry plane (X-X) lies between 5 degrees and 40 degrees, and by the fact that both ends of the slots (14) are located at the bottom level of the hemispherical head (12) of the nozzle and spaced from the said symmetry plane.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Industrial Application Field] The present invention is directed to subdividing a liquid into small droplets within the body of a spraying device and suspending the liquid in a stream of air so as to form a wide flat jet. A spray device of the type that sprays a mixture of and at high velocity through an elongated opening in a nozzle with a hemispherical head. The device is used in particular for cooling continuous castings.

In known devices of this type, the nozzle has a single gap forming a relatively thin jet. By increasing the gap width it is possible to increase the thickness of the jet, but in this case the jet will not be uniform.

For example, when cooling blooms, especially those produced by continuous casting machines, a relatively thick and uniform jet is desired over the entire cross-section of the bloom. It is an object of the present invention to provide a nozzle with which such results can be obtained.

In the case of the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2, the edges of the gap are parallel and the central plane of the gap is inclined with respect to the plane of symmetry by an angle α equal to approximately 20°. When projected perpendicularly to the central plane of the gap and the plane of the drawing (arrow F), the shape of the gap is approximately trapezoidal as shown in FIG. The gap is formed by milling with a saw milling cutter or a three-way milling cutter on a universal milling machine with a tiltable head.

In the embodiment of FIG. 4, the width of the gap, which is located similarly to the nozzle of FIGS. 1 and 2, decreases from the ends toward the center. When projected perpendicularly to the central plane of the gap and the plane of the drawing (arrow F), the gap has the shape shown in FIG.
In this embodiment, the longitudinal edges have a curved shape, for example a circular arc. The machining of the gap consists of two phases. First, a parallel flat edged gap is formed by milling. The lip is then shaped into a curved shape by combining a reciprocating cutting motion with a forward circular motion.
