In a continuously variable transmission that has a forward/reverse switching section in a power transmission system including a continuously variable transmission section consisting of a main pulley, a sub pulley, and a drive belt wound between both pulleys, the sub pulley is used for speed change control. Line pressure is always supplied to the side hydraulic servo device, and line pressure is supplied to the main pulley side hydraulic servo device through at least a speed change control valve that operates in relation to the throttle opening and engine speed. In the L range of the forward gear in which the switching section is switched to the forward side, the shift position is detected by the shift position detection valve and the shift control operation of the shift control valve is limited by the shift limiting valve.
