Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled carpet resistant to the fray at the cut part, by heating and pressing a part of the foam-backed carpet corresponding to the part to be cut in application using a high-frequency heater, thereby collapsing the foam. CONSTITUTION:A part of the carpet 1 backed with a foamed material 6 corresponding to the part to be cut in application, is passed through a high-frequency electrical field, and hot-pressed to form the collapsed part 4. The collapsed part 4 can be easily cut or bent without causing fray. The process is especially suitable for the treatment of a carpet backed with the foam of polyurethane, vinyl chloride resin, etc. the cut end of which has been difficult to be treated by conventional method.

Description

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a method for treating a portion corresponding to the end position of a carpet having a synthetic resin foam backing material such as polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride.

Conventionally, when carpets are laid down, it is necessary to perform some sort of treatment on the cut parts, as they tend to fray if left as is. Normally, edging around the carpet cut is performed, but with foam backing, edging is difficult or impossible. Normally, foam-backed carpets are sold or installed without cutting edges, but in recent years, foam-backed carpets are increasingly sold after being pre-cut to a certain size (binding process) and have foam backing materials. It has become necessary to treat the edges of the carpet.

The present invention is a method suitable for treating carpets backed with foams such as polyurethane and polyvinyl chloride, for which it has been difficult to treat any edges in the past. The gist thereof is a method for treating a foam-backed carpet, which is characterized in that the foam is crushed by passing through the foam, heating and pressurizing the foam.
