Abstract

A system of parquet flooring or flooring or wall covering utilising moulded frames (1) with shaped edges (2, 3, 4) to allow any form of floor or wall covering to be attached to the frames (1) and secured thereto, and with interlocking edges (2, 3, 4) to allow each frame and floor or wall covering to interlock with the surrounding frames and floor or wall covering to produce one complete unit, the base of each frame being covered with adhesive (5) which, when moistened, will secure the frames and floor or wall coverings to a foam underlay.

Description

  • This invention relates to the preparation and laying of parquet flooring and any other floor or wall surface in tile form. Normal parquet flooring or tile covering has until now had to be stuck down or even nailed to a sub-floor, which can prove both time consuming and messy. This system needs no nails or adhesive, other than that on the frames, and can be laid more quickly and conveniently than conventional parquet flooring or other floor or wall covering.
  • The main part of the system comprises a plastic frame which by means of shaped edges will hold, as well as wood, vinyl, cork or any other hard floor or wall covering. The frame also interlocks with adjacent frames to hold the complete area as though it were one. The system, i.e. frame and covering, is laid on a foam underlay which is then slightly moistened to soften the adhesive which is coated on the underside of the frame and covering.
  • When the moisture softens the gum type adhesive, this will stick the underside of the covering to the foam, thus securing the system. The foam underlay will serve to reduce any noise on walking on the flooring. The frame itself can be made to any size which is necessary to accommodate the various parquet patterns.
  • The frame which is moulded from plastic has two male sides and two female sides which are diametrically opposite to allow them to interlock as detailed above. One exception to this is when a herring bone pattern is required, in which case the frame has a different male and female end. The longitudinal sides are normal.
  • The above system can be seen in the plans attached. Plan 1 shows the frame (viewed from above) designed to allow the adhesive to soak through and at A, B and C on Plan 1 shows the location and close-ups of the shaped edges to the frame which facilitate the interlocking of the frames and the securing of the appropriate form of floor or wall covering to the frame.
  • Plan 2 shows a square version of the frame, again viewed from above.

Claims (4)

1. A system of parquet flooring, flooring or wall covering comprising frames with interlocking edges to allow the frames to be linked together in whatever pattern is desired, shaped edges to allow the securing of any form of floor or wall covering, the underside of the frames being covered with adhesive to facilitate the system being secured to a foam underlay on the floor or wall.
2. A system of parquet flooring, flooring or wall covering as claimed in Claim 1 which can be utilised for wood, vinyl, cork and any other form of floor or wall covering which can be secured onto the frame.
3. A system of parquet flooring, flooring or wall covering as claimed in Claims 1 and 2 wherein the frames can be interlocked to provide any design of parquet flooring or flooring or wall covering.
4. A system of parquet flooring as claimed in Claims 1, 2 and 3 wherein the foam underlay will cushion the flooring and deaden any noise.
