Abstract

PURPOSE:To smoothly repair, replace and inspect a wire electrode to improve the efficiency of operation by enabling the lower portion of a working liquid splash preventing cover to spring up in an electric discharge machining apparatus. CONSTITUTION:A working liquid splash preventing cover 2 formed of rubber is mounted on the lower portion of a nozzle 1 for flowing the working liquid in the upper portion 2-1. The lower portion 2-2 is diverged like a skirt and located on a work 4. A wire electrode 3 extends through the nozzle 1 to cut the work with wire cutting electric discharge machining. When the wire electrode is repaired, replaced and inspected, the lower portion 2-2 of the cover 2 can be turned up and held at the outside so that said operations can be easily carried out.

That is, when an electric discharge occurs between the two electrodes, that is, between the wire electrode and the workpiece, the electric discharge point is rapidly heated to cause evaporation and melting, and the explosive force of the electric discharge causes the evaporated and melted portion to scatter, and the machining progresses. After the discharge ends, the machining fluid rapidly cools the machined part and restores the insulation between the electrodes. In addition, the wire electrode becomes high temperature due to Joule heat due to discharge heat and machining current, making it easy to break, but it is cooled by machining fluid to prevent wire breakage.
Insufficient cooling between the wire electrode and workpiece electrode may cause the wire to break, so ensure that the wire in that area is sufficiently covered with machining fluid, and that machining powder generated by electrical discharge is removed as quickly as possible. It is desirable that

In this way, the machining fluid is supplied between the wire electrode and the workpiece electrode. For this purpose, for example, as shown in FIGS. 3 to 5, a nozzle l is provided on the workpiece 4 through which the wire electrode 3 passes. When the machining fluid flows through the nozzle, it splashes on the workpiece, so in order to prevent this machining fluid from splashing, conventionally a sponge 2 was placed around the outlet of the nozzle l, as shown in FIG. ’ or
As shown in FIG. 4, a plastic material 2'' such as acrylic is provided around the outlet of the nozzle 1, or a gap 5 is provided around the nozzle 1 as shown in FIG. Measures were taken such as providing a cylindrical fixing part at the outlet.

(Problems with the prior art) With the conventional cover attached to the nozzle to prevent machining fluid from splashing, for example, if the wire electrode passing through the nozzle breaks, it is difficult to connect the wire electrode and repair it. Whenever the need arises, use the above-mentioned sponge,
It was extremely difficult to handle, as it required removing the acrylic or other plastic and re-passing the wire electrodes. Further, even when it is desired to easily inspect the electrical discharge machined part, there is a problem in that the above-described conventional machining fluid splash prevention means cannot easily inspect the electrical discharge machined part.

FIGS. 1(a) and 1(b) are perspective views of the first embodiment. In the figure, 1 is a nozzle through which the machining liquid flows, and 2 is a cover to prevent the machining liquid from splashing, which is made of rubber. The upper part 2-1 is attached to the nozzle 1, and the lower part 2-2 spreads out like a skirt and is located on the workpiece 4. A wire electrode 3 passes through the nozzle 1 and performs wire-cut electrical discharge machining on the workpiece 4. As is clear from FIG. 1(a), the machining fluid is supplied from the nozzle 1, poured into the gap between the wire electrode 3 and the workpiece 4, and drained. By the way, when the machining liquid is supplied from the outlet of the nozzle to the gap between the wire electrode 3 and the workpiece 4,
Although the machining fluid splashes on the upper surface of the workpiece 4, since it is covered with the cover 2, there is no chance of the machining fluid splashing outside the cover 2.
