Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an optical reader which can surely and easily reads objects to be read even when they are long and narrow, by constituting the optical reader of a scanning line generating and sending means which generate and sends plural scanning lines and a data reading circuit which scans and reads objects to be scanned and outputs the read content. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam 14 is emitted from a laser oscillator 15 and reaches a hologram disk 11 through a reflecting mirror 9 and the hole of a slit mirror 8. The disk 11 is rotated by a motor 10 and deflects the laser beam made incident on the disk 11. Therefore, different beams are radiated depending on the characteristic of hologram segments and a scanning pattern 12 composed of parallel scanning lines is obtained. Light reflected by a label 13 on which bar code symbols is marked passed through the disk 11 and converted into electric signals by a photoreceptor element 7 after their route is changed by 90 deg. by the slit mirror 8. The electric signals are sent to a recognizing section where they are decoded through a cable 18 after they are amplified by an amplifier 17.

FIGS. 1 and 2 are diagrams showing an example of a general hand-held barcode reader as the POS system. In Figures 1 and 2, 1 is a scanning L 2U barcode symbol, which is configured to automatically scan a barcode label 2 or 2' with a single scan line 1 or 1' to read the barcode. ing. When such conventional optical symbol reading devices read elongated barcodes printed on small products, it is often difficult to quickly and reliably scan the label.

00 and reaches the hologram disk 11 through the hole of the slit mirror 8. The hologram disk 11 is rotated by a motor 10, which deflects a laser beam incident on the hologram disk 11 to create a scanning pattern. Since the hologram segments constituting the hologram disk 11 have different characteristics, laser beams are emitted in different directions, and a scanning pattern yxz consisting of parallel scanning lines is obtained. The light reflected from the label 13 resulting from the self-destruction of the barcode symbol passes through the hologram disk 11, and its course is changed by 90 degrees by the slit mirror 8.
