Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of oil consumption of a shaft sealing device by installing a coil ring on the outer circumference of each segment of a seal ring which is constituted with a wedge-shaped internal part having a sloped face and other part having a horizontal face thereon. CONSTITUTION:Each segment of a seal ring 13 is formed in such a way that said segment has a face sloping toward a piston rod, a wedge-shaped internal part 14 the top of which is oriented upward and other part which has a horizontal face thereon, and an oil window 15. Said seal ring 13 is constituted with more than 3 segments. System oil attached to said piston rod is scraped down to the wedge-shaped top of each segment of said seal ring 13 with a oil-scraping ring 11, and thereafter said oil passes down through an oil path 12 via said oil window 15 to be returned into an oil pan.
