Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce contrast difference by leading out common lines concentrically at one terminal side of a lower substrate, connecting it to common-line lead-out terminals formed on an upper substrate, and making the total resistance of the common lines nearly constant. CONSTITUTION:Plural common lines 51, 52-563, and 564 are arranged concentrically in the lengthwise direction of the lower substrate 4. Further, lead-out terminals 91, 92-963, and 964 for the common lines are provided at one terminal side (right-hand side in the figure) of the upper substrate 5. They are connected to the common lines 51, 52-563, and 564 at a connection part 10 through lead- out lines 91a, 92a-963a, and 964a electrically with conductive rubber which is not shown in the figure, the connection point 10 is formed slantingly at 45 deg., and the sum of resistance of each common line and each lead-out line is made nearly constant. Consequently, the contrast difference between adjacent display parts is reduced and two-way lead-out structure is realized to facilitate packaging operation.

FIGS. 1(a) and 1(b) are a plan view and a cross-sectional view of an essential part of an example of a conventional high time division layer dynamic liquid crystal display element. In the same figure, 1tj is a translucent upper substrate on which a plurality of bar-shaped segment lines 2 are formed at a predetermined interval width in the upper transverse direction of the back surface, 31.3 snow~ass *364 is the long side of the upper substrate 1 External lead-out terminals 4 for the segment lines 2 formed on the inner surface end are translucent, with a plurality of strip-shaped common lines 5 formed in the longitudinal direction of the upper surface facing the segment lines 2 formed on the upper substrate 1. A liquid crystal 6 is interposed between the upper and lower substrates 1 and 4, and its periphery is sealed with a sealing material T. A pattern display section (91) in which segment lines 2 from eight companies and common lines 5 are arranged internally in a matrix to display a desired pattern in a matrix.

Reference numerals 9 and 964 are external lead-out terminals for the common wire formed at the four corners of the inner surface end on the long side of the upper substrate 1. It is connected to the corresponding common wire 5 on the plate 4 via the upper and lower connecting portions 1°. The upper and lower connecting portions 1o are electrically connected with a conductive rubber 11 interposed therebetween.

The high time division side dynamic liquid crystal display element configured in this way is
Since the common wire 5 has a so-called two-way terminal structure in which the lead-out terminals of the common wire 5 are arranged on both ends of the upper board 1 in the longitudinal direction, the lead-out terminals of the common wire 5 on the upper board 1 and the common wire 5 on the lower board 4 are connected to each other. Electrical connection with the terminal 3.9 can be easily made by attaching conductive rubber such as zebra rubber.

However, in the high time division side dynamic liquid crystal display element having the above configuration, the lead terminals 9□ to 964 of the common line 5 are arranged in two parts at both longitudinal ends of the upper substrate 1, and signals are simultaneously transmitted from both ends. Since power is supplied, a difference in contrast occurs between the display at the portion closest to the power supply unit and the display at the farthest portion. In other words, as shown in FIG.
Since the pattern display by the common line 5a and the pattern display by the common line 5b whose power feeding section is farthest are adjacent to each other, display unevenness becomes noticeable. Furthermore, since the liquid crystal display element has a capacitive load, there is a problem in that this tendency becomes particularly large when driven at a high frequency, that is, when driven in a high time division manner.

According to such a configuration, the display parts that cause the difference in contrast described above are no longer adjacent to each other, so the display pattern unevenness is not noticeable, and driving at a higher frequency than before is possible. .

However, according to such a configuration, since the lead-out terminals 91 to 964 of the common wire 5 are provided on the short side of the lower substrate 4, the terminal lead-out structure is arranged in three directions, and connection with the drive circuit cannot be easily performed. However, there were drawbacks such as the extremely complex implementation.

In order to achieve such an object, the present invention centrally arranges the common wire leads at one end side of the lower board, intersects the common wire lead terminals formed on the upper board at this part, and connects the common wires at this intersection. By making the upper and lower connections, the resistance values throughout the entire common line are kept constant.
