Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent tearing or the like after coating and to enable an image uniform in film thickness to be formed by dipping a substrate into a coating fluid to coat the substrate, and forcing the attached fluid to be dried soon after coating. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 2 is dipped in a coating fluid contained in a cylinder 1, coated with said fluid, and dried forcibly in a drying zone installed near the cylinder 1 successively after the coating to form the recording body of a phtosensitive body or the like. Such a drying zone means a zone capable of preventing a coating film attached to the substrate from tearing in the range from the start of compulsive drying to its end, and when needed, a natural drying stage may be provided. Execution of such compulsive drying in a drying zone successively to the coating permits tearing, blushing, etc. of the coating film to be prevented, a uniformly thick film to be obtained and drying to be executed effectively, accordingly, a uniformly thick undercoat layer and a photosensitive layer to be formed on a substrate, and this process to be used not only for manufacture of an electrophotographic sensitive body but also for other electrostatic recording body, etc..

[Prior Art] Conventionally, a method of manufacturing an electrophotographic photoreceptor by dipping a cylindrical support in a coating liquid containing a photosensitive material and coating the same is known as a dip coating method (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 1989-1992). -1
See Publication No. 39736, etc.! Bu). In such a dip coating method, obtaining a uniform film thickness is an extremely important issue, and from this point of view, a technique for changing the initial and final coating speeds is known, as described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 57-5048. However, even this technology cannot solve the problem of dripping of the coating liquid. Therefore, on January 11, 1981, the applicant
In the specification attached to the application for filing (title of invention: method and apparatus for manufacturing recording bodies such as electrophotographic photoreceptors), it is stated that the coating speed is constant and the pulling speed of the support is increased. We have proposed a technique that can suppress dripping of the coating liquid by drying it as quickly as possible after pulling.

As a result of continuing research on the previously proposed technology, the present inventor found that in the previously proposed technology, when drying is performed by installing a dryer separately from the solinter as in the past, drying becomes complicated and the distance to the dryer increases. There is a drawback that brushing occurs due to humidity due to contact with outside air during transfer, and depending on the type of coating liquid, liquid drips during transfer, making it impossible to completely satisfy the above requirements. I discovered that there is a problem. It has also been found that such a problem is not limited to the previously proposed technique, but is a common problem that occurs when the coating device and dryer are discontinuous as in the prior art.

Note that the coating method to which the method of the present invention can be applied is not limited to the above. For example, a ring-shaped rubber elastic coating valve is provided at the bottom of the cylinder, a support is inserted from below the coating valve, and a small amount inside the cylinder is coated. It can also be applied to the so-called continuous dip coating method (see Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 101149/1983) in which coating is performed using a specific coating liquid.

3 is a dryer 3 that forcibly dries the support 2 after coating while it is being pulled upward;
It is removably fixed in part. The dryer is, for example, a second dryer.
It can be configured as shown in the figure. In the figure, 4 is a main body of the dryer, and 5 is a through hole formed in the main body 4 in a band shape. A jacket 6 is fixed around the main body 4 so as to cover the through hole 5, one or more pipes 7 are connected to the jacket 6, and a blower 8 is connected to the pipe 7. The structure is such that suction can be performed by the blower 8. 9 is an opening in the upper part of the main body 4, and 10 is a suction pipe provided at the upper end of the cylinder as necessary.

The drying means using the dryer will be explained with reference to FIG. 1. First, the coated support 2 moves up the drying zone in the dryer 3. Next, the blower 8 is operated to start suction. In the drying zone, external air taken in through the opening 9 and the suction pipe 10 is sucked into the jacket 6 through the through holes 5, creating an air flow and thereby drying the paint film. being moved aside.
