PURPOSE:To prepare a toothpaste composition having improved shape-retainability, water-retainability, feeling to the palate, etc., by compounding microfibrillated cellulose. CONSTITUTION:A toothpaste composition having improved shape-retainability when squeezed on a toothbrush, feeling to the palate in tooth polishing, and cleanability after polishing, is prepared by compounding microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) to a toothpaste composition. MFC can be prepared by beating pulp fibers in a slurry state by conventional process. The aqueous dispersion of MFC having a solid content of about 0.5-6% is pasty and exhibits stable dispersed state. In the compounding of MFC to toothpaste, it is preferable to substitute a part of binder with MFC.
