Abstract

PURPOSE:To fix the end part of a metallic cylindrical ferrule formed with a screw on the inside surface and to enable simultaneously plane finishing of the end face of the optical fiber by melt sticking thermally the sheath of the optical fiber to the cylindrical ferrule. CONSTITUTION:Plural cylindrical holes 2 are formed in a metallic heater block 1 and the base 3 thereof is polished to a plane surface. A screw 5 is formed on the inside surface of a metallic cylindrical sleeve 4 constituting a plug. An optical fiber 6 consisting of an optical fiber strand 7 and a sheath 8 composed of a nylon coat or the like is inserted into a cylindrical ferrule 4. The block 1 is heated in this state to heat the fiber 6 through the ferrule 4 and to melt the sheath 8, thereby melt sticking and joining the sheath to the screw 5 of the sleeve 4. The strand 7 of the fiber 6 is pressed at the same time to the base 3 to finish the end face of the fiber 6 to a plane surface. The ferrule 4 joined with the end part of the optical fiber is thus assembled as an optical connector plug shown in the figure.

(C) Conventional technology and problems In the conventional optical connector terminal S, the fiber end was fixed to a book made of a cylindrical ferrule with a coupling agent, and then the end face of the optical fiber was polished and finished to a flat surface. However, such a conventional method requires two steps: the process of joining the optical fiber end and the process of finishing the end face of the optical fiber. The fixing work was troublesome and had poor workability.

An optical fiber 6 consisting of an original fiber strain (core wire → 7 and a jacket 8 made of a nylon coat, etc.) is inserted into the cylindrical ferrule 4. In this state, the Peter block 1 is heated, and the original fiber 6 is inserted through the cylindrical ferrule 4. When the sun heats up, its outer covering8
This is then spaced and joined to the screw 5 of the cylindrical sleeve 4. At the same time, the strands 7 of the optical fiber 6 are pressed against the bottom surface 3 to finish the end surface of the optical fiber 6 flat. In this way, the cylindrical ferrule 4 to which the end portions of the original fibers are joined is assembled as an original connector plug having the structure shown in FIG. 2, for example. Seven flanges 9 are fixed to the cylindrical ferrule 4. Fukunji 9 may be formed integrally with the cylindrical sleeve 4 in advance. 010 is a fukuronut, 11

As described in detail, the method of forming the terminal end of the connector according to the present invention is to heat-fuse the optical fiber jacket onto a metal cylindrical ferrule with a thread formed on the circular surface. This makes it possible to fix the end of the original fiber to the cylindrical ferrule and at the same time finish the end face of the original fiber flat, which improves workability, improves productivity, and simplifies the process.
