Abstract

PURPOSE:To readily and surely connect a strap and a lug of a plate by forming a hole or cutout in a lug of a plate, forming a lug engaging hole in a strap, engaging the lug of corresponding plate in each engaging hole, and press-connecting the strap and the lug of the plate by pressing them from the outside. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of holes 6 are previously formed in lugs 4a-4e of anode plates 1a-1e and lugs 5a-5d of cathode plates 3a-3d. A lead alloy anode strap 8 having lug engaging holes 7a-7e which can engage lugs 4a-4e of anode plates 1a-1e is made by casting. A lead alloy cathode strap 9 having lug engaging holes which can engage lugs 5a-5d of cathode plates 3a-3d is made by the same way. The lugs 4a-4e of the anode plate 1a-1e are engaged in the lug engaging holes 7a-7e of the anode strap 8. The lugs 5a-5d of the cathode plates 3a-3d are engaged in the engaging holes of the cathode strap 9. By pressing, the inside of the lug engaging hole is press-connected to the lug of the plate.

BACKGROUND TECHNOLOGY In general, when manufacturing a lead-acid battery, first, the required number of cathode plates and anode plates are stacked with separators in between, in the following order: cathode plate, separator plate, anode plate, separator plate, cathode plate, etc. After that, connect the ears of a predetermined number of cathode plates and the ears of a predetermined number of anode plates with cathode straps and anode straps, respectively,
Pre-cast pole posts are welded onto these straps to form a group of pole plates. Next, this electrode plate group is housed in a battery case of a storage battery, and an electrolytic solution is injected into the battery case to form a storage battery. In the conventional manufacturing method of this type of storage battery, the cathode strap and anode strap were connected to the respective ears of the cathode plate and the anode plate by flame welding. If there is foreign matter attached to the ear, the welding between the strap and the ear may not be completed completely, and the area near the rising edge of the ear may melt due to the flames, causing so-called Conditions such as ear thinning and ear clipping may occur. Furthermore, the quality of the connection between the strap and the ear may be influenced by the skill level of the welding operator, which has the disadvantage of reducing the yield of the product.

Structure of the Invention The method of the present invention relates to the step of forming an electrode plate group during the manufacturing process of a lead-acid battery. A notch is drilled and an ear fitting hole is formed to fit the ear of the electrode plate to be connected to the cathode and anode side struts, and each ear fitting hole of the cathode strap and the anode are formed. By applying pressure from the outside to the latter strap, in which the corresponding ears of the electrode plate are fitted into the respective ear fitting holes of the strap, the respective straps and the ears are completely crimped and connected.

According to this method, there is no need to perform welding, which requires a high level of skill, so the quality of the connection between the strap and the ear part does not depend on the skill level of the pugilist, and the quality of the connection between the strap and the ear part is always reliable. Each strap can be connected to the ear.

Further, with the crimp connection, the strap and the ear can be completely connected even if some foreign matter is attached to the ear.

Furthermore, since the ears do not melt, defects such as thinned ears or cut ears do not occur. As a result, it is possible to obtain an electrode plate group having high mechanical strength and good electrical connection, and it is possible to improve the yield of lead-acid battery manufacturing.

A plurality of holes 6 as shown in FIG. 2 are previously formed in the ears 4a to 4e of a to 1e and the ears 5a to 5d of the anode plates 3a to 3d. In addition, in a step different from this step, as shown in FIGS. 3' and 4, the ears 4a to 4e of the shadow sand plates 1a to 1e are respectively fitted (N ear fitting holes 7a to 7e are formed). An anode stock 769 made of a lead alloy having a predetermined length of 1 mm and having ear fitting holes into which the ear parts 5a to 5d of the anode plates 3a to 3d can be fitted. manufactured by Takuzo.Next, the superimposed cathode plates 1a~

mate. Thereafter, as shown in FIG. 5, pressure is applied to the cathode strap 7 from the outside, for example from all four sides in the horizontal direction and from above (see arrows), so that the inner walls of the ear fitting holes 7a to 7e are fitted into the cathode plates 1a to 1e. Crimp connections are made to the ears 4a to 4e.

In a similar manner, the anode strap 9 is pressurized from the outside, and the inner wall of the ear fitting hole of the anode stock 7''9 is pressed onto each of the anode plates 3a to 3a.
3d are crimped and connected to the ears 5a to 5d. By providing holes 6 in each ear in this way, the metal fittings of the strap will flow into the holes 6 in the ear when the strap is pressurized from the outside.
The strap and the ear part can be firmly crimped and connected.

Effects of the Invention As described above, according to the present invention, after all the ear fitting holes are provided in the cathode strap and the anode strap, and the corresponding ears of the electrode plate are fitted into each of these ear fitting holes, Since both straps are fully crimped and connected to the ears of the electrode plate by applying pressure to the intervening strut 7'' from the outside, it is always possible to connect both straps and the ears of the electrode plate by crimping, regardless of the level of skill of the operator or the surface condition of the ears. There is an advantage in that it is possible to obtain an electrode plate group that reliably has high mechanical connection strength and a good electrical grounding condition.
