Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform the dust removing of an optical head with an inexpensive device which is free from maintenance by providing a contactless dust collecting mechanism to an optical disk device which performs the replacement of a recording media. CONSTITUTION:Either one or both of an optical head 4 and a dustproof device is shifted when an optical disc device starts its working. The dustproof device is set above the optical head and consists of an electrode 8, an insulated member 7 and a support frame 9. When the dust is removed, the voltage is applied to the electrode 8 to polarize the dust on a focusing lens 1. The polarized dust is attracted to the electrode 8. When the dustproof device is over, the relative position between the dustproof device and the optical head 4 is moved. Then the voltage of the electrode 8 is dropped down to zero when the head 4 is not positioned under the dustproof device. Thus the dust comes off the electrode 8.

Conventionally, recording heads used in magnetic disk drives (1F) etc. have sealed housings as a dust-proof structure with the main purpose of preventing heat leakage. This requires a sealed structure, which increases the size of the device.

In order to prevent a decrease in the amount of light emitted from the optical head of an optical disk device, it is necessary to prevent or remove dust from adhering to the focus lens exposed to the outside. A possible solution to this problem is to make the casing airtight or semi-sealed, as is the case with disk devices, but this would make the device expensive and large, and it would be difficult to replace the recording medium. Therefore, in optical disk devices and the like that exchange recording media,
It is difficult to create a structure like the one above. Therefore, it is necessary to take a method to actively remove dust attached to the focus lens. However, to avoid scratching the focus lens, it is necessary to remove dust without contact.

The dust removal device consists of an electrode 8 for attracting dust, an insulating material 7 for electrically insulating the electrode 8 from other conductors, and a support frame 9 for supporting these. However, the support frame 9 can also be used as the upper cover 3. When removing dust, the dust on the focus lens 1 is polarized by applying a voltage to the electrode 8. The polarized dust is attracted to the electrode 8, and dust removal is completed. After the dust removal is completed, when the relative position of the dust removal device and the optical head 4 moves and the optical head 4 is no longer present below the dust removal device, if the voltage of the electrode 8 is set to zero, the attached dust will be removed from the electrode 8. Get away from it and it will fall. Therefore, since no dust remains in the dust removal device, the dust removal ability will not be reduced.

6. Next, FIG. 4 shows an embodiment that deals with a case where the pole 8 and the optical head 4 are easily in contact with each other. In FIG. 4, since the electrode 8 is covered with a dielectric material 10 such as Mylar, the dust removal ability due to static electricity is preserved, and even if the optical head 4 and the dust removal device come into contact, current does not flow to the optical head. There isn't.
