Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a coal/oil slurry consisting of coal with a specified particle diameter, petroleum coke having a particle diameter smaller than that of the coal and heavy fuel oil and having excellent fluidity and stability, a high calorific value and a low ash content. CONSTITUTION:The slurry consists of (A) coal having such a particle size distribution that about 70-80% of the particles may pass a 200-mesh sieve, (B) petroleum coke having a particle diameter smaller than that of (A) and (C) heavy fuel oil. When (B) is added to reduce the ash content of the slurry, it is crushed to the same particle size distribution as (A) and is added in an amount to impart properties required of the slurry. When (B) is added to improve the fluidity and stability of the slurry, it is pulverized to such a particle size distribution that about 70% of the particles may pass a 500-mesh sieve and is used in such an amount that (B) may accounts for 1-20wt% of (A).

The benefits of coal as an energy alternative to petroleum are being reconsidered, and its use as a fuel is expanding. Coal heat generation:! 1
In order to compensate for this, fine coal powder and heavy oil are mixed together.
The use of slurry fuel (CiOM) has been studied and is being put into practical use.

In a slurry of coal and oil, it is desirable to have a large proportion of 5 coal due to the original purpose of replacing petroleum with coal, but currently, so:so is not suitable in terms of slurry viscosity and stability during storage. This is considered to be a practical limit.

Many types of additives have been proposed to lower viscosity and increase stability, and their effectiveness has been confirmed, but the use of additives increases the cost of slurry fuel, so the amount used is limited. It is desirable that it be as small as possible.

On the other hand, petroleum coke, which is a product of petroleum refining, is much smaller in quantity than coal, but it can be used for the same purposes as coal, especially bituminous coal, and has a lower ash content and calorific value than coal. It has the advantage that it requires less power when it is made into a fine powder because it has a high percentage characteristic and has good crushability. It has the advantage that it requires less power when it is made into a fine powder. It is possible to mix petroleum coke into a slurry of coal and oil, reduce the ash content of the slurry, and generate heat. Increasing the amount is being considered by some oil users, but no proposal has yet been made to improve the properties of slurry by taking advantage of the characteristics of petroleum coke in terms of friability.

When adding petroleum coke to the slurry fuel for the purpose of reducing the ash content and increasing the calorific value, the coal and petroleum coke are crushed to about 70-80% of the 200 mesh pass, and the petroleum coke is added according to the required properties. If you want to simultaneously improve the fluidity and stability of the slurry, reduce the ash content, and increase the calorific value, the ratio of petroleum coke should be determined based on the latter condition, but the total amount of petroleum coke should be made with a particle size smaller than that of coal. There is no need to do this, and it is sufficient to use only the amount of petroleum coke necessary to improve the fluidity and stability of the slurry, that is, 1 to 20% by weight of coal, and the required particle size.
