させる記録又は再生装置のフォーカスサーボにおいて、
記録又は再生用光ビームとこれとは異なる光路からの媒
体位置検出用光ビームとを、互いに偏光面が異なる第1
及び第2の直線偏光とし、該第1及び第2の直線偏光を
分離しうる偏光プリズムを、回動自在のトラッキングサ
ーボ用、ミラーと上記対物レンズとの間の記録又は再生
用光ビームの光路中に設け、上記対物レンズを通して記
録媒体上に上記記録又は再生用光ビーム及び媒体位置検
出用光ビームを夫々同時に射突すると共に、上記対物レ
ンズを通過した記録又は再生用光ビーム及び媒体位置検
出用光ビームの記録媒体上からの反射を該偏光プリズム
により分離して該第2の直線偏光である媒体位置検出用
光ビームの記録媒体上からの反射光を差動結合した光検
出器で受光するように構成したことを特薇とするフォー
