Beam shaping of semiconductor laser light is used in the chemical head of an optical disk, which records data by shaping the semiconductor laser light into a beam of about 1 μm using a condensing lens and drilling a hole in the recording medium on a rotating disk. A cylindrical convex lens is placed between the polarizing beam splitter and the focus lens, and the return light reflected by the disk passes through the cylindrical convex lens again and is combined with the convex lens placed in front of the photodetector to focus onto the photodetector.
